I spent a few hours trying to figure out how to use polkit some weeks ago, and thought I was getting somewhere, but when I actually tried to use it
nothing worked.
While a couple of the tutorials I found where helpful, as is often the case some important basics were not really explained.
I am unclear as to whether or not one can use polkit with most any graphical application, or if there is something that must be coded in to the ap
itself to allow it to work with polkit, or perhaps I should say to allow polkit to work with it.
How does the devices indicator shutdown or reboot the system with out a PW prompt, with polkit?
I might get the hang of things just by rereading the same tutorial(s) I looked at a couple of months ago, but if anyone can recommend some resource that
I can use to get up to speed with PK, it'd be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

For best results, the application needs to use policy kit directly in the code. I am not sure how it works, since I have not had a look at the API, but I suspect it allows parts of your app to run with elevated privileges.
There is pkexec, or something similar, but I have no idea what it allows/how it works etc.

Yeah, pkexec has not worked for me so far.
I'll have to take a fresh look at it some time soon when I have some time, and hopefully a fresh mind/maybe catch something I missed first try.
