International Motor Racing Research Center to Announce

Year-Long Celebration of 50th Anniversary of

First Formula One Race at Watkins Glen

 

WHAT: For 20 years, Watkins Glen, NY, was home to the United States Grand Prix. The racetrack in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region attracted the world’s greatest drivers to compete on a first-class Formula One course and to enjoy for a few days the lifestyle and amenities of rural America.

 

When the green flag dropped on Oct. 8, 1961, Watkins Glen was already well-established with racing fans. But it was Formula One that attracted attention and acclaim from the international motorsports community.

 

The International Motor Racing Research Center is planning a year-long salute to this American racing history. We will be announcing a series of exciting events and activities that will entertain and educate, each keeping to the mission of the International Motor Racing Research Center to be the world-class leader in the collection of materials representing the documentary heritage of amateur and professional motor racing worldwide.

 

 

WHO: IMRRC President J.C. Argetsinger and Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup will be joined by others, including race historian Bill Green, in making this announcement.

 

 

WHEN: Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 12:15 p.m.

 

 

WHERE: International Motor Racing Research Center, 610 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen.
