Mike:

Thanks for starting this conversation. Points of major agreement:
* Aim for 2022
* Agree this group / event shouldn't affiliate with Vintage Computer Federation. I concur with your observation that their primary interest is their museum in NJ. Not a bad thing, just not advantageous to us on the West Coast.
* Agree conference events are more fun than "day shows"
* Agree that LCM+L is worth exploring, but I'm skeptical as they laid off ALL staff, so there's no one up to speed to be a concierge.

Suggestions / topics for discussion:
* The Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle is capable of hosting many, many events. I can't imagine they're getting a lot of business right now. Perhaps renting a conference space is reasonable now.
* Community and Technical Colleges are usually reasonable. I've attended events at South Seattle College that took over their main conference area all day (but not evening) Saturday and most of Sunday. DItto Bellingham Technical College.
* As much as I'd like to advocate for Bellingham, and Bellingham Technical College easily and happily hosts LinuxFest Northwest in April... Seattle metro area is probably a better, more central venue for folks coming from Portland and Vancouver BC.
* Maybe one way to start slow would be to find a one-day venue to hold a retrocomputer-mostly swap meet. No presentations, just a chance to bring some old stuff to find new homes for, and mingle amongst ourselves. Maybe charge a modest entrance fee to offset the cost of the venue.

Personal perspective:
* It felt really uncomfortable for me for the "hordes" of public at the VCF PNW event that I was able to attend and help at. They were nice, but they just didn't have a clue, and that kind of took away from the enjoyment from those of us passionate about retrocomputing. I would have been happy with a smaller, more focused event that would have tried to get the word out to retrocomputing fans. That may well not be an issue without being located at LCM+L at a 2022 event.

Thanks,

Steve Stroh
