Col BRS Dahiya,
Member VINOBA Governing Council,
NEW DELHI.
Dear Mr. Mann/Col Dahiya,
I am writing this letter to thank you for the excellent support you and other senior old boys gave to the school during the annual day celebration on 04/05 Dec 2010. But for your support the function could not have been such a great success. Thanks a lot indeed.
However, there have been incidents which have left a very bad taste in the school. Once again the root cause were old boys who stayed in the Houses. As happened during the last annual day of 2008-09 these were all old boys generally of the period 2000-2008 and few even senior OBA members. I am mentioning the incidents briefly :-
(a) Our Senior Mess music system was stolen by breaking the door by old boys staying in Panini House.
(b) Old boys staying in Houses collected Rs.300/= per boy (about Rs.18,000/= per House) and the money was used to buy liquor, mutton, chicken items which were consumed at night in the Houses. None of these boys attended any school function.
(c) As reported by House staff and school sweepers almost 4/5 bed sheets in two Houses were spoiled with liquor and vomit with non-veg items scattered everywhere.
(d) Mr. Parmender Singh of 1971 batch who was with family entered the House fully drunk and had to be forcefully sent off by the Housemaster and senior boys. He also used unparliamentary language.
(e) Few of class XI and XII boys also consumed liquor and non-veg items with them.
You are aware that we were all extremely busy with the various functions and since these activities were all done after 1.00 AM on 04/05 night, these went unchecked. These young anti-social OBA members took advantage with the support of some of our boys and indulged in above activities. The names of some of these boys collected from the Houses are :-

Vidya Niketan was established with a view to promote Indian ethos, character and discipline. I am personally a disciplinarian and I do not tolerate any nonsense. Earlier also I had mentioned that old boys should not be permitted to stay in the Houses. These incidents are a setback to all the efforts of improving the school. Boys who joined the school in XI and X boys are shell shocked and I have already started receiving calls from parents about these activities of old boys. I may inform you that word has already spread in Pilani thereby sullying the image of the school and giving lot of joy to those who felt uncomfortable with our efforts to improve the school. (Local business men, liquor vendors, dhaba owners and mobile phone shops). I have taken these incidents extremely seriously since these have violated the basic norms on which BPS has been built. This can not be tolerated. Accordingly I have taken following decisions :-
(a) The entry of all old boys of the period 2000-2009 is banned in the school. They will be turned away from the gate.
(b) No old boy will be permitted to stay in the Houses normally and also during the annual day. This will now onwards become a policy of the school. I know there will be all out efforts to dilute it but let me warn everyone concerned with the future of BPS that such action will only damage the school.
I have during the past 35 years of my involvement with a large number of schools seen how some old boys of Public Schools have damaged the institutions by undermining the school rules. I also know that as a nation we abhor discipline and that is why we have such murky and disgraceful happenings in our society. It is only with your support that we can avoid such incidents in future. I appeal to all old boys through you to protect BPS from degenerating into an ordinary Public School.
With all good wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Col ® D Choudhury

This mail is being forwarded to all for their necessary comments since various opinions and versions of actually what happened (which seems to be exactly opposite of what the Principal has to say) was heard in the Annual Get-together of Jaipur Chapter on 15th Jan 2011. This may help in resolving the issue with the School Authorities through a proper representation. All the replies shall be compiled and forwarded to The President VINOBA for further necessary action on the issue.
Thanking you all,

Yes, we should clarify the things. VINIANS have been projected badly and the truth should be known to all. I suggest to contact all the old boys mentioned by name by VINOBA office bearers immediately/as soon as possible.Rajendra PareekPatanjali 1974On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 4:25 PM, Parag Kamani <pa...@kamani.in> wrote:

Dear Sanjay,
I partly agree with you as we always have 2 sides of stories..
I remeber discussing similar issues a year or 2 back in Old boys gathering in Delhi wherein the Principal had raised similar issues.
- One thing was pretty clear in the discussion that Principal wasn''t as appreciative of VINOBA as much as any old timer in BPS (teacher or student) would be..More of culture thing...Hope I am wrong..
- With regard to specific complaints, I would not jump to conclusions until we know the details...Also, there is always a line for acceptable conduct above the threshold which is 'acceptable' provided it doesn't go overboard...We all cherish the mischefs we did in our times..We should view the incidents from the view of current times as we are talking of batches from 2001 onwards.. the threshold from our times have changed considerably...e.g..Post Card - Inland Letter to Facebook...Not that I am saying whatever listed in Principal's mail (if true) is acceptable ...
Once we know the details, I suggest to get opinion from our ex-teachers who are in touch with VINOBA just to have different view incase we are biased and than decide on course of action...
