I have been using this scanner for over a year now (2 of them), no problems whatsoever in Windows 10. After upgrading to Windows 11, the software installs, but the services do not start because they tell me "No connected scanner. Connect scanner and try again".

However, all of a sudden the scanner stopped working an throws up an error saying no scanner found. Upon removing the scanner cable and reconnecting it with auto mode on works perfectly. So, I figured this could be due to the drivers and it was indeed showing up that the dirvers aren't taken even though it is already installed and has been working.

So I did a complete windows update, ininstalled the software, drivers... etc and reinstalled it again with no success. Device manager still shows that it's not picked up the drivers. I have tried both the USB ports with no luck. So I tried it on a different PC and it was all working fine.

we have several users that use the same computer with different login profiles and for some reason the scanner will work for 1 person but if that person logs off and i have another employee log in witht their own profile the scanner is not recognized.

I am having a similar problem. We have numerous P-215 scanners. We have recently upgraded several laptops from WIndows 7 to Windows 10. One every one of them, the scanner driver randomly "disappears" and the scanner will not connect. The only solution is to constantly reinstall the driver, after which it will work for a few days before it disappears again. I have contacted Canon about the issue, and their response is " We don't know anything about it". On several of the laptops, we have replaced the Canon with a ScanSnap scanner and they work fine, so the problem is with Canon, not Windows 10.

In reviewing the thread, we all have the same issue on Windows 10. From my history in working in PC tech support, simply the TWAIN driver is not reaching the apps on Windows 10 64bit. in my instance, it worked once on a new PC, I uplugged it and plugged it back in the next day and the WIndows 10 64 bit system applications would not see it again, but instead sees it as a a FAT drive.

I could post you the error message from the applications I am using but they are not going to be useful because they are non-Canon and application specific. For example, what is a GIMP dialog going to tell you except when you use the GIMP dialog to pick a TWAIN source, it finds none.

To reiterate, the scanner is detected by the system as Storage Disk, not a Scanner. Applications on my Windows 10 64bit PC will not see the scanner. Yes I (re)installed a new drivers that I downloaded from your site yesterday.

We cannot guarantee how the scanner will function with third-party programs, but if the scanner is not found within CaptureOnTouch, please download and run the Restoration Tool for Windows Registry. To download and run this tool, please follow the instructions at the link below:

If you still continue to experience an error, we will have to recommend that you call us at 1-800-OK-CANON (652-2666), Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET (excluding holidays). While we understand the forum may be the preferred method of communication, the next troubleshooting steps will need to be provided by phone, with a technician assisting you through them.

This fix still does not work. Can someone post the cause. We have a Win 7 pro system that all of a sudden changed to being a drive instead of a scanner. This is starting to look like a bug in the scanner communication with win 7 and 10. Pretty frustrating that this has gone on for so long and still no answer from canon.

I just ordered 20+ units of these scanners to deploy to remote workers and have been unable to get them installed. I tested them about 3 years back but I believe we were still on Win7. I tried the registry fix, and went in manually as well to confirm the device ID's matched, but it still doesnt work. When I launch COT for the first time it brings up the scanner which I select, but when attempting to scan it says "cannot find scanner. Check the power and the cables". I have both USB cables plugged in but the scanner still isn't showing up in the device manager or in the "printers/scanners" section. The scanner does show up as a usb drive though. When I open the scanner in my computer and run the app it says "an error has occured while communicating with the scanner. close the aplication and reconnect the scanner".

This actually gets the scanner communicating with the PC and works flawlessly with Windows Fax & Scan. Hopefully this will help someone out. I think the capture on touch SW is pretty bad and constantly loses connection from my past experience so this might be a solid option going forward for less tech savy clients.

***Make sure to keep autostart set to off otherwise Windows thinks it's an external drive. Apparently it's supposed to run Capture On Touch light with the switch in that position but Windows is unable to launch the app that is included***

I recently ran into this issue and the Canadian driver did work, I then just use the CaptureOnTouch Standard_V4.13.1122.1221 unplugged the device, installed both, reconnected the device and ran it, then it worked.

Not aware if anyone has resolved this but I have a Canon P-215ii and I got it to work in Windows 11/10 using the x86 driver that comes with the current canon driver on a third party application as well as the Microsoft Scan App.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing your problem could be any virus program you are running. I have Kaspersky and it was asking me all kinds of questions before it let the scanner connect to Creality Scan 1.0.14.

Beginning with Windows 10 20H1, the Windows OS assigns the graphics processor to use for various applications, and overrides any settings made in the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Preferred graphics processor setting for that application.

Exactly the same problem. Spent 24 hours trying everything I can, but the scanner part of my F2480 is not recognised on my new Windows 11 computer or my old Windows 10 Laptop, where it was before. Still works fine on a very old Windows 7 computer.

I don't think the drivers are correct, but when I find the correct page on HP website it tells me I haven't got the full pack, but doesn't offer any, other than various Apps that don't work. I've tried so many different solutions I have lost track, and I'm getting concerned about messing up my new computer.

I am facing a similar problem after installing Windows 11 Pro on my laptop which was already running Windows 10 Pro about three weeks ago. My device is HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 and I've tried reinstalling HP Smart but nothing works! It does print properly but the scan function is not available. Please help.

Here's my view on things. I bought my HP F2480 scanner/printer many years ago because my old scanners had stopped working with the new Windows 7 (?). I desperately needed the scanner but not the printer, then 6 months later, I tried to start using the printer which has NEVER printed one page. It malfunctioned with the supplied cartridges, HP suggested I buy new ones, same result, and then they told me it was out of warranty and refused to discuss it further. So basically I would never buy another HP product, or an inkjet printer.

But I carried on using the Scanner part, successfully. On a Windows 10 upgrade, HP Solution Centre disappeared from my computer and wouldn't reinstall. Fortunately I found Microsoft?windows SCAN App and that has worked brilliantly.

As soon as Windows 11 was introduced my desktop and laptop both announced they were not able to upgrade to Windows 11, and the desktop was never right since. Constant freezing, refusing to restart etc, so I used my Laptop for a while but found that HP Solution Centre had disappeared from that, and Windows SCAN no longer recognised my scanner.

As I have a need to submit a few scanned documents every weekend, I had to but a new desktop, which upgraded to Windows 11 as soon as it was activated, but SCAN and Fax and Scan would still not recognise my scanner. I tried every solution on HP website (knowing they would just ignore me if I asked for help) and nothing worked. Their website shows me no drivers but various assistants to download. I still have my installation disc, but that doesn't show an "INSTALL" button and won't run.

After spending every spare minute for two weeks on this, I have a partial solution. I found a website that still has a working HP solutions centre, I downloaded from there, and it works - although annoys me all the time by telling me to buy yet more Ink. This is the website, select your own printer. -deskjet-f2480-driver/

Unfortunately although Windows SCAN app now sees my printer, it still won't connect to it. I am sure the problem will soon reoccur - obviously every computer hardware and software company want to disable everything you own and make you buy new. I've also had two external hard drives fail recently, a USB hub, and non of the games I bought work anymore.

Part of the problem may be that the drivers won't update. Mine are 2008, but I can't find anything to update to. Unfortunately a new scanner costs a lot more than a printer scanner, and they seem to be in short supply, but I am sure HP will defeat me soon.

I had the same scanner issue while still running Windows 10 with the Color Laser Jet MFP277dw printer. I downloaded and installed the complete HP update, as suggested, with no luck. Not only could I not scan, but HP Print and Scan Doctor would freeze up and not allow me to close it out. I spent 6 hours trying to find a fix. Eventually I reinstalled the old HP drivers and the problem went away. I can now scan and HP Print and Scan Doctor does not freeze up. There is evidently a serious issue with the HP updates. HP is losing my product confidence. I will start researching other brands. Customer care is a lost value in most places. Sad to see HP follow the leader!
