Hey all,
It's been a while since we've last talked. We're structuring and getting ready to make some big steps with the garden. We are going to have a little picnic on Sunday after second service out at the garden to formally roll it out, but since you've already expressed interest, you get to have first dibs!
We have developed four project teams to oversee the various tasks which need to be done for the garden in general. The description of these teams (Maintenance, Composting, General Health and Community Involvement) can be found in the attached pdf file (VCG_Roles&Responsibilities).
We are looking still for someone to give ownership to the Maintenance role and also are looking for people to join that team.
We are also looking for someone to give oversight to the Community Involvement role and for team members to join the composting team.
The other major change is the implementation of the "Adopt-a-Plot" model. We are asking groups or individuals to sign up to adopt a plot. For this season, it will involve weeding and harvesting one of our 40 plots. This is open to everyone (inside and outside of the church). In the following planting seasons, adopting a plot will involve the entire life cycle of a plant (i.e., Starting the plant from seed in homes, Planting the plant in the plot, Caring for that plant as it grows, Weeding the plot, Harvesting the fruit and Giving it away). See the attached VCG2.jpg file for a graphical representation of this. Mentoring and relevant training will be given to the groups. This is a great way to build community and make a difference in Stafford, Texas. Individuals who sign up will be mapped with other groups or individuals to help build relationships and community inside and out of the church body.
Soon we will have this up on the community garden website. For now, I've created a registration form which is hosted on one of my other websites. Please take a moment to look at the "Layout-Blank.jpg" file, and then visit
http://www.thereapproject.org/form.html/ to complete a registration form. The form works flawlessly with Internet Explorer, but if you use another browser, just know that after you click "Submit", you may get a blank page. This is normal and the form has been submitted correctly.
Please talk with your home-groups or friends or coworkers about this opportunity to help. Maintaining one plot is something very manageable, especially since we're working in groups. I hope you can join us. Also, pray, pray, pray! Pray that this program will build community and change lives!
In Christ,
Tim Perkins
