We've reserved the venue space at Forward for our June meetup, on the last Tuesday of the month. Save the date!

Let's set a theme for the June meetup. Here are a few possible topics that have been suggested:

* Vim + tmux ("...go together like peanut butter and chocolate" - Brian Hogan)
* Writing a Vim plugin
* Quickfix
* Text objects

If you've got any other ideas, now's the time to speak up.

I'd like to run these themes past the group at tonight's meetup, and we'll try and decide on one for the June meetup.

Cheers,
Drew

As I said last night, I'm happy to talk about tmux.

Personally, I use tmux + turbux + tslime, so I can talk about that triumvirate. (was previsouly using vimux instead of tslime - so will compare those 2).

Matt.

Thanks for volunteering Matt! I've put you down on the schedule:

My usage of tmux is pretty basic at the moment, so I'm looking forward to picking up some tricks and tips at this meetup.

Drew

Here are some ideas for possible tmux topics. Please volunteer if you'd be happy to give a talk on any of these topics. These are just a few ideas that I've come up with, but if you have an idea for something else then please speak up.

## Meet tmux

An introduction to tmux, answering questions such as: Why tmux? What's it good for? How does tmux complement Vim?

Some helpful blog posts:

## Running external processes asynchronously

Vim can run external processes using `:!command`, but it blocks Vim's UI until the process exits. With tmux, you can run external commands asynchronously, which lets you continue to use Vim while the process runs.

These Vim plugins can help:

(Now that I think about it, the talk that Matt is giving covers this topic, right?)

## Using tmux for remote pair programming

A demonstration of how two people can work together using tmux+vim. Perhaps also covering some of the setup, such as trading public SSH keys, enabling port-forwarding on your router, and so on.

These projects can help:

I use tmux but only basic usage of windows & sessions, nothing too complex. I'd be happy to do an intro if it then sets up nicely for Matt to do a more complex talk on Vim + Tmux plugins?

Either way, Drew I'd be grateful for just 2 mins of stage time to briefly mention tilvim.com - would love to get some contributions from the wider community so it's not just me writing all the time!

Cheers,

Jack

Thanks for volunteering Jack. How long do you think you would need to cover the basics? 5? 10 minutes?

Good idea. You're welcome to make that announcement, whether or not you speak.

I've updated the schedule for our June meetup to include Jack's introduction to tmux:

I'm still looking for a volunteer, or ideally a pair of volunteers, to demonstrate how tmux can be used for remote pair programming.

We've got two talks lined up for our tmux themed meetup this month, and I'd like to schedule one more presentation (at least):

1) An introduction to tmux, by Jack Franklin
2) A testing triumvirate: tmux+turbux+tslime, by Matt Southerden

Would someone like to volunteer to give a talk on how ssh+tmux+vim can be used for remote pair programming? I've got a remote pair lined up for you: Nicolas Alpi (who runs the Bristol Ruby Users Group) has kindly volunteered to be available online at the time of the meetup.

Hey folks, you can now RSVP for our June meetup:

I'd still like to schedule one more talk, so if anyone has anything they'd like to present please give me a shout.

Drew
