Hello fellows!

On location, we can meet at Obtiva's office which is right next to Union Station.  Here's a map.  I was thinking a 60 or 90 minute meetup would be best.  6 to 7:30 on the 25th of Feb?  Does that work for everyone?

Obtiva may also be willing to provide dinner.  I'll find out and let you guys know.

On topics, I have a couple different ideas.  I thought it'd be cool to have 15 minute lightening talks where each presenter could cover a different topic on the editor.  These topics could be anything - your favorite plugin, some cool or unused features you like, even just an overview of how you like to work with the editor (maybe in a specific env. like Rails?).

I could present on:
  - How I use tabs (I use them often)
  - Using vim with Clojure
  - Ack (my favorite plugin)

Here's my second idea.  Hack night.  What better way to learn the editor and learn someone else's style than to hack on some code together?  I'm good enough to have fun in Ruby, Clojure, Scala and Java.  There's a couple options here.  We could do a RubyQuiz or something similar or we could work on open source stuff.

On Open Source,  I have a few projects going currently and a bunch of ideas I haven't had time to start.  I'm sure you guys do as well.  We'll just break up in pairs and figure it out as we go. Does that sound fun?

So, here's a place to start the discussion.  I'd love to hear what you guys are thinking.

Any of these options sound good to me. I'll be there.

I just want to see how other people use vim (and ask a lot of questions about what they do). I'm particularly interested in stuff that's highly customized.

I can't commit to the date yet . . . although it seems like it would
be ok for me.
But, the location and format (presentations or hack night) are great
for me.

The format sounds good. Thursdays are tough for me as I'm at a suburban client, at least for another month, but I would try to make it.

Like the ideas and in general I'm good to participate. For this month
I'm probably out though, as I'm spending the next few weeks at the
Jacksonville office. Curses! ;-)

Format and location both sound good to me as well.  Unfortunately, I have plans on the 25th so I will have to miss this one.

We can do the 24th if that works better for everyone and it'll fit in Ben's schedule.  However, if that week doesn't work for a lot of people I'm willing to move it.

Anyone have a suggestion for a date?

Alright, we'll make the first meeting Wed. February 24th from 6 to 7:30 at the Obtiva offices.  Now, who is willing to put together a 15 minute presentation?  I think we need at least four (you can do more than one if you want) otherwise, we'll make it a hack night.

Also, if you'd like to request topics please do so.

Here are a few areas I struggle with that I'd love to learn more about:

- complex motions & nifty editing tricks
- using macros
- using multiple registers
- scripting in vim

And of course I'd love to hear about your favorite plugins or heavily customized environments.

What would you like to hear about?

+1 on vim scripting and multiple registers

Also would like to better understand how vim recognizes blocks (the % motion), and how this can be customized (extract method, anyone?)

Looking forward to it!

@Tyler

I would be interested in hearing how you use tabs and Ack.

Sure,

I'll put something together for tabs & ack.  Anyone else want to present something?

We'll do presentations first and make the rest of the meeting a hackfest.

Also, if you have colleagues who use vim please invite them to join the mailing list and attend next week.

I'll send out an official meeting reminder later to summarize logistics, location, and food.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

-Tyler
