I can understand how decoding ciphers, where one letter or symbol is substituted for another, works. I might not be able to do it myself, but it makes sense to me that other people have the knowledge of math and the tools to do so.

This is my first real attempt at making a PICO-8 game :) It's a simple infinite runner that borrows heavily from Spy Hunter. There's a lot more to add (sfx, music, bullets) but I'm happy with what I was able to achieve in half a day.

Only thing I can see right now is that the oncoming traffic is coming a bit too fast. I would think it's speed would be relative to my speed rather than just always being super fast...I'm passing them, not the other way around.

The boxes with the skulls that you shoot are fine...but after a while there's a flashing warning at the top of the screen and then something zips down the screen and kills me. It's so fast that I can barely see it and certainly can't shoot it...thought it was a motorcycle like from the real Spy Hunter game or something.

I know the game isn't even done yet, so maybe it's premature feedback. If that "zip" is something you can't destroy, which is fine, just make sure you let the player know to avoid it rather than try to shoot it.

Are you planning a boat level too? :) Would be cool if after so much time or so many points you just switch sprites to be a boat on water. Given the homage to Spy Hunter, would be a nifty treat that could keep people going so they see what's next. You could do an air level too, like a helicopter - something Spy Hunter never had! You're talking about the rockets that fire at you! The flashing at the top and warning sound are meant to give some warning, maybe not enough though? I'll see what I can tweak, maybe a longer warning period...

Ahh...rockets, gotcha. The issue isn't the time of the warning it's that you don't know what's coming. Is it a car? A rocket? A cliff? As the player you don't know how to prepare...nothing super critical, just something I had to trial-and-error several times before just giving up (which isn't what you want people to do).

Don't know if it is even remotely possible that someone would be able to diagnose this via the forum, but I have a Spyhunter upright that seems to be having ROM errors. Often times it will not boot up when turned on (only get grey screen), other times it will boot after several minutes, and on rare occasions it comes up right away. Once it is on, sometimes the game resets itself (as if re-booting) and other times crashes completely during gameplay. My only real maintenance skills involve cleaning contacts and dust removal, but any ideas would be appreciated. Furthermore, if anyone is in the central Connecticut vicinity and would be willing to service the machine, please let me know your estimated costs to do this.
