Never heard of that happening. See the charge on my credit card each month reliably, even manages to go thru when I am over my limit on the card so something weird that they never emailed that it failed.
I had netflix magically change the active plan I was on. Cant remember the details exactly, it was around the time they put prices up, I magically ended up the the "premium" plan, instead of "standard" that I've had forever.
If you're using some sort of unblocking service (don't discuss services please in public) then ensure you're setting up billing in NZ dollars by logging into your Netflix account on a device without your unblocking. The unblocked content will work without issues and you'll continue to be charged in $NZD. If you change plans (upgrade / downgrade) or change credit card then ensure you do this from a standard NZ IP without the unblocking service.
I suddenly has Netflix stop working/cancel also just today. Looks like my credit card expired at the end of 2017 and Netflix never sent a notification email (or email was never received). I talked with Netflix and they, of course, said they have no issues but this may be the root cause for a number of others too. Restarting subscription may require a a change of password, new plan selection and then updated credit card info. Happy viewing.
Hello, I have a problem with my netflix account. I added Paypal as a default method (previously, it was a gift card). Today it is a day when netflix can charge me for the service and instead of paying, he welcomed me by e-mail: your account has been suspended because of insufficient money to pay. I talked with Netflix support and they said that it is a problem with Paypal account. I have set Paypal balance as a default method to pay for the service but now in my Paypal account ,even if I added netflix, I do not see any traders for the automatic payments. What can I do, because polish call center will be available tomorrow
I don't have a Netflix account and never have done. I have a Gmail address which I have never used for public communication. Suddenly I started getting email to this Gmail address from Netflix - not a "Welcome to Netflix" email or one requesting address verification, but what looked like a monthly promo for an existing account. This was addressed to someone with a different real name, with that name not similar in any way to the Gmail name.
After a few of these messages I decided to investigate by going to Netflix and trying to log in with that email address. Using the "forgotten password" option I was able to get a password reset email, change the password and log in. The account appeared to be from Brazil, with some watch history but no other personal details stored and no payment information.
Soon the emails from Netflix started to ask me to update payment information. I didn't, of course, and then they changed to "your account will be suspended" and then "your account has been suspended". The "come back to Netflix" emails are still coming in occasionally.
I don't see how this could possibly be a phishing attempt - I carefully checked that I was on the real Netflix site, used a throwaway password not used on any other sites, and did not enter any of my personal information. I also checked the headers of the emails carefully and they were sent by Netflix. So is this just a mistake on somebody's part, mistyping an email address (although it's surprising that Netflix accepted it with no verification), or something more sinister?
(Note that the above steps don't include any "password reset" step for Jim to access the account; that's because the email from Netflix includes authenticated links that won't ask for it. The attacker wants the victim to click on the email links instead of visiting Netflix manually, this is what enables "Eve" to log back in to the account in step 7. Or, since Netflix emails authenticated links, possibly "Eve" already has one.)
The above situation is partially caused by Netflix (understandably) not recognizing Gmail's "dots don't matter" feature where email sent to [email protected] and to [email protected] end up in the same account. That doesn't really matter in your case (given that if this is how you're trying to be scammed, step 1 was skipped entirely), however.
The most probable situation is that someone used an arbitrary Gmail address (yours) in order to sign up for a free trial, or mistakenly tried to change their email to the wrong address (maybe to have a friend/family also get emails).
This would not be a "hack" or even a phishing attempt, just using any available address. This does mean that your Gmail address could not be used for a free trial at Netflix, so there is that negative impact to you.
As a side note, by logging into someone else's account, you have violated many country's "unauthorised access" laws. I would not make a habit of doing this (or telling others on public sites that you have".
I get dozens to hundreds of e-mails from legitimate companies (car dealers, LA dept of water and power, Macys.com, cell phone activation notes, the payroll company ADP, and Nationwide insurance) from people with my first name and an initial matching my last name.
The worst was in early 2019, when I received medical records (Lab results in a .PDF file) - a clear HIPAA violation, since e-mail isn't an authenticated or encrypted communications channel. The "medical records" person, who should know the law, was the sender of the e-mail.
In my case, none of them are nefarious, but represent clueless users or even worse, clueless sales clerks (such as Lenscrafters in Maryland), the Apple store in Manhattan, and others too numerous to mention.
I got emails from Netflix too saying that my account was cancelled and that there was a sign in attempt somewhere from the US... except that I live in Canada, and have never made a Netflix account in the first place. I went directly to the Netflix website and was able to speak to a representative, and they deleted the account. There was no payment information either. I don't understand why this happened, either someone has a similar email address yet without the dots, or perhaps there is some sinister reason, but I wouldn't know. I've wondered if someone might do this hoping that the other person would fill in their payment information, thus enabling the account.
So I cancelled my Netflix subscription on the netflix website but after that, whenever i tried to download new apps on my ipad it always said payment method incorrect which makes no sense because i am not buying anything or subscribed to anything so it does not matter that there is no money on my card. 4 months later i am sick of this "payment method incorrect"nonsense to i made sure my card had enough money and tried to download my items again. i was then charged for Netflix. i received the notification on my phone reference Itunes but i received no email with a receipt and the charge is not even on my purchase history. i tried to sign in to netflix again to check if it still cancelled and i was asked if i wanted to have a new streaming plan - this just proves that my membership was cancelled but on my subscriptions in my settings it just says expired. Even my netflix account has no record of any billings after i cancelled my account
Regarding Netflix, you mentioned cancelling the subscription through the Netflix website. Have you checked for any subscription through your Apple ID account? If not, use the steps in these links to check for any subscription that may be active:
They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.
Not clear if they are just checking geo location vs subscription. And putting a higher weighting on folks not streaming from Turkey IP addresses.
Maybe if you VPN into Turkey and watch from Turkey for a while, it may keep you active.
I re-join it after they cancelling mine 2 days ago. I have to use Netflix gc to make it works. However, when I want to continue the program I was watching before the cancellation, I MUST use VPN Turkey, otherwise, it flow an error and can't watch anything. Does anyone has similar issue after re-joining?
@Mistredo: Normal that I now have to use Turkey VPN to watch? Is that because I just re join due to their one sided cancellation? Is that perm or only for 1 or 2 months? I never need to use VPN to watch in the past. Thanks
@pedantique: I went back to check and looks like geolock was introduced around mid 2023 mentioned in this post. So if you had signed up before then you wouldn't have gotten it, however, all new Turkey subscription has had it ever since.
FAQ
Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.
What are you on about? Netflix is a paid media service, not a essential service or utility. If the quality is bad and the price is high, you can simply not use it, they have no obligation to provide value based on your tastes and personal income. Then you don't get to watch it. They clearly don't need you as a customer if you don't even pay full price, otherwise they wouldn't be booting people right now.
@Guybrush57: Plenty of other subscriptions have increase since their release, it's really not a shit tonne of money compared to what else Aussies spend money on. You cant really compare to the cheapest countries, as you aren't living there and getting paid in that currency. Anyway in reality it's only twice as much as Turkey now.
