Hi all,

So, I'm curious...do many people actually -like- the MacVim icon? I
feel like it's almost as hideous as the normal vim icon.

Bjorn, are you open to changing the MacVim icon?

In that vein, I decided to mess around a bit in Illustrator (with my
very limited skills) and see if I could come up with something better.
I've linked to some rough ideas. Please let me know what you think.
Note that I did not stick with the nasty color of green that the other
Vim icons I've seen use.

Also, if anyone has any better ideas, please let me know and I'll try them out.

i like the MacVim icon, but the again, i like the standard vim icon,
so my judgment may be in question.

you may want to refer to the Apple Human Interface Guidelines as you
continue working on candidates:

Count me among the lovers of the MacVim icon, including (indeed, partly because of) its greenness. I like the fact that the current icon (a) is but a minor tweak to the ``real'' vim icon (which is awesome in its simplicity and flying-V-osity), and (b) lacks ``apple-ification'' elements. There's no need, IMHO, to put an apple-shape or a big `X' in the icon. We all already know we're on Macs, and the app is called MacVim. I would not like to see a forced change to anything but a tiny tweak of the current one.

I like it. I looks similar to the original icon (which I don't like
that much ;-) ), but better. It uses the same colors and letter shape,
which is a Good Thing imo (MacVim is still vim after all). However,
the current icon is only 128x128, I wouldn't object to have a slightly
updated icon with a 512x512 version. But an updated version should
still look like vim (ie. green diamon with a V in front of it -- I'd
be happy with an icon that looks like the current one but has a
512x512 version, but I wouldn't object slight variations either).

Likewise, if there should ever be a "real" MacVim homepage at
macvim.org, it should be light brown and white, like vim.org (just…
better looking than vim.org ;-) ).

Initially I did not like the icon but it has kind of grown on me. The
green may not be the most attractive, but I object more to the
"brushed metal" on the V than the color.

Yes, I was planning on it. When, I do not know. I guess if somebody
makes an icon that really fits and that lots of people like
(hopefully, me included ;-) ) then I'd consider using it. I did have
somebody on this project but they may take a long time so I welcome
suggestions from anybody.

At the moment, I feel quite comfortable keeping the current icon.

I agree with the sentiment that the icon doesn't _need_ an apple or an
X on it. Actually, isn't the apple a trademark of, well, Apple?

As for sticking to the green color and the diamond with the V...well,
it makes sense to keep those elements but I personally have no qualms
of getting rid of them altogether. I am guessing a lot of people will
disagree with me on that however.

...and I do not like the shape of the V...it just looks like somebody
opened Word and hit the v key, then used that...*shivers*

I think the icon has to be first and foremost a Vim icon.

You can make it more 'Mac Like' but it's got to be a green diamond
with a V at least...

I like the current icon.

Ah well...I guess the consensus seems to be that folks like the icon.
I'll just stop my attempts, then. :)
