Currently the shortmess option matrix for search messages looks like this:
| Feature | 'shortmess' setting | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| +s+S | +s-S | -s-S | -s+S | ??? | ||||
| "search hit TOP/BOTTOM, continuing at BOTTOM/TOP" when search wraps | N | N | N | N | Y | Y | Y | Y |
| display "W" when search wraps | N | N | Y | Y | N | N | Y | Y |
| display search count | N | Y | N | Y | N | Y | N | Y |
I find both the first and third feature helpful - I don't often notice the "W," esp. since it's on the other side of the screen and I'm not always watching the search count. I'd like to have a setting combination that lets me enable both of them. I don't care whether or not the W is displayed also.

I think that is a big complicated by the way how Vim handles the message buffer.
