Query about updating search stats

Hi all,

Does anyone know why the update_search_stat() function (in search.c) considers the search direction and cursor position when deciding if it needs to recompute the search stats?

In my testing they don't seem to matter. In fact they just cause recomputation when it's not required.

What am I missing?
