Don't mean to troll but I ran across this really neat talk (on a Vim channel) on using the Vim emulation layer, Evil mode, in Emacs.

I'm a convert to the Vim way of text editing and evil-mode let's me have this and use all the Emacs goodness.

Maybe this talk will convince you too ...

And when you're converted, go use Spacemacs so you don't have to configure it yourself!

It's not a troll, and it's definitely worth checking out.

I've been using Org-Mode for about 6 years now.  Org-Mode is
one of the best note-taking and project management applications
ever.  The upside of Org-Mode is you're using plain-text to do everything.

The downside is that Org-Mode is built on top of Emacs, which
means that you need to learn Emacs' "style" of keyboard shortcuts ........ unless
........there's a Vi-mode on top of Emacs......

Too many geeks throw away good Emacs programs because they think
of those programs as married to Emacs the text editor.  Too many geeks throw
away good programs because they're married to specific technologies, but I digress.

Evil mode allows you to have some of the keyboard-ninjitsu of Vim, plus
one of the best programs I've ever used, Org-Mode.
