Syntax highlighting weirdness

Need to automate adding Go syntax highlighting on a CentOS VM, . I notice
that go.vim is missing from /usr/share/vim/vim74/syntax with the
vim-enhanced CentOS installation, but I always thought that dropping in a
copy would enable it, but that DNW.
What also is required to enable syntax for a filetype other than adding
<language>.vim?

Never mind, .. finally found filetype.vim.
