So I click play, obviously. The screen goes black, and the mouse gets larger as the display resolution changes. Then, the black window disappears. Then a box comes up (with an ejay background) telling me it's initializing it's doo dah or whatever. Anyway, at the same time, a windows box appears, saying that this program is not responding. The program is responding, it just does nothing for a few seconds, then loads. This works fine on Windows XP, but not Windows 7 (?!).
Does Windows stop Ejay Dance from loading, or simply give you the notification and then go away? By default, it should automatically re-try to load, and the prompt should simply go away. But if the program actually stops loading, the problem may be in the driver compatibility, not actually Windows stopping the program. If that is the case, try checking for an updated driver for Windows 7 (or at least Vista - it may work), since they are VERY different from the ones for XP. Let me know if it works, or I can help you dig farther.
When eJay Dance 7 is about to load (like, when it's loaded the loading screen :P), it says it's not responding, then says it's checking for a solution. When it can't find a solution, it just does nothing. If I close the box, it closes eJay.
I tried looking for the help thing, but eJay doesn't have one anymore. It was empire-interactive, but I read somewhere on the interweb that it went into administration and closed down. FAQ's, README and manual have nothing that helps.
I dont know about 7, but on older version of windows there is a registry setting with the number of milliseconds a program has to be uresponsive for before windows flags it as such. try increasing that value?
SgtMe - I did post back yo you yesterday, but got pulled away and must not have sent it through, sorry. There is a registry key you can change the value to allow a longer time for the program to start, which will keep Wiindows from trying to solve a non-existent problem. If you're sure the drivers are good, go to tech-net (microsoft) and search for list of registry keys and their corresponding action - then just change it accordingly - BUT unlike the gentleman above, I would not suggest trying it in XP mode, as virtual machines are generally not up to the task of running a program like that.
the gentlemen above said compatibility mode not xp mode ,2 different things ,and that would be my suggestion to ,just right click on the exe and chose compatibly and chose xp ,you can do this either for install or run of the program
I was reading back over the post and thought I should direct you a bit on installing in compatibility mode. First, uninstall any part of the program that may be loaded on your machine (control panel, programs and features, see if the program is in the list, if it is - double click to uninstall).......... Second, insert the disk but don't let it autorun, instead click open to view files and folders, right click on the .exe file and click run in compatibility mode, then see if it installs - - if not, try the same thing except when you right-click on the .exe file this time choose Run as Administrator (then, if it gives you the option again, run in compatibility mode - if not, just run as administrator) . ....try this and let me know if it works, before we go messing with the registry!!!
Somewhere on previous posts I see you and some other guy where talking about compatibility mode and xp mode and stuff.
When I choose compatibility mode, it wants me to choose an OS to use in compatibility. Which one should I use?
Please let me know how it works - if it does not, I can experiment here (I have a Windows 7 64 bit machine also) and see if I can force install, then after trial and error, if it works, let you know how from there, OK? - Best of luck to you - I'll do my best to help get it resolved!!
OK - I downloaded this program from CNET, took ownership, ran as administrator and all is fine - (cool program, by the way) - Now, there's a couple things to check here - 1) Is the CD any good? (maybe try downloading it, as I did) - 2)go to www.howtogeek.com and follow instructions on how to add 'take ownership' to your right-click menu, then be sure to choose that before install - 3) right-click to open menu and click Run As Administrator to install ---- if that does not work, we need to look at your hardware configuration or what other changes you may have made to your machine previously. Oh, and one more thing, be sure to do a complete UNINSTALL of any files from EJay that may already be on your machine BEFORE attempting to install again.
Above all, don't worry - now we know for sure that this thing WILL run in Windows 7. We just need to track down the problem, but it is fixable. - Best of luck to you, and let me know how it goes, and whether I can help you further.
First try Un-installing that folder - you want to wipe out any reference of the old program so that Windows treats it as a new program, otherwise it won't do any good to take ownership, because Windows already has that folder marked as a problem. Re-load from your disc if it is working, AS ADMINISTRATOR, and take full ownership BEFORE letting it load.
Dang...Didn't work...again.
I ran the installer of the CD as admin.
Took ownership of the program folder.
Could take control of folders on CD?:
ERROR: File ownership cannot be applied on insecure file systems; there is no support for ACLs.
I guess the only other thing I can think of is to load it to a flash drive and try to run it from there. I really don't know, though. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. Hopefully someone else following this may be able to help, or possibly post a new thread if that's allowed.
Best of luck to you, my friend.

Once the break was over, I resumed my normal routine in the school and helped with the grant proposal. They were able to use what I wrote in the initial proposal, so I am very happy that I was able to contribute to the future of Lecheria. During the week I made sure to take in all the sun and spend as much time as I could on the roof of my house listening to the neighborhood and the birds. During my last weeks here, I was very conscious about being present and appreciating the small things. On the weekends, I spent time at the community pools with my friends and was able to take a pottery class in the city. It was my first time doing pottery and it was so much fun! We made plant pots and were able to paint them as well. I think it is a great souvenir to bring back home or even to leave in the house as a gift. I will be looking into classes when I come back to Buffalo, NY.
There is a metro system here that makes it so easy to get into the city from Los Alcorrizos but first you need to take a carro pblico (taxi) for about 20 minutes to the station and then you can go anywhere in the city. My roommate and I went to the south part of the city to a rock-climbing event. It was such a fun experience! We had no idea what to expect but we met so many people and to my surprise so many people that can speak English and Spanish. I met a woman that was finishing her PHD program as a marine biologist who is from India originally but has been going to school in Europe. I was so amazed by her experiences, we talked the entire time I was there. Doing small events that I would do in Buffalo but meeting new people from around the world, exchanging numbers and networking is the best thing that going abroad offers. You will always meet at least one person that you will keep in contact with for the rest of your life.
