Friday, 10/1 Mark Welton "The Rule of Law in the United States"
Coming Attractions
Friday, 10/8 George Lyons "Free Will as Deterministic: Less Known Philosophy"
This lecture reviews the position in philosophy popular in academia but less known generally that free will and determinism are consistent, or compatible, instead of opposites, called compatibilism. How this seeming contradiction is resolved will be explained.
Friday, 10/15 Scott Roberts "What Every Lay Person Should Know About the Life of Jesus of Nazareth and His Alleged Resurrection.”
Scott says that the purpose of his talk is to study, as an historian, the arguments for and against the alleged resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. He approaches this topic not as a believer or disbeliever of the Christian tradition but as a trial lawyer regarding the pro and con arguments regarding the historicity of this critical occurrence. Come, be part of the jury to decide this critical issue and have fun.
Friday, 10/22 Joe Frost "The not - so - sweet Truth"
Friday, 10/29 Drake Shepard "He Said / She Said - It's About Sex"
This talk will detail in humorous and in social science ways how men and women each think, feel and act. We will discuss attraction, flirting, sex appeal, intimacy, aging, what sex does better at what and why. Insight is provided about hormones, brain wiring, evolutionary traits and societal norms that contribute to make both sexes separate but equal.
