The Philosophy Club meets Friday afternoons at Lake Miona Recreation Center in The Villages, FL.  Meetings start promptly at 4:00PM and end at 5:30PM. Presenters usually speak for 25 to 45 minutes, followed by a Discussion Period where the Leader and Audience Members ask Questions and express their Opinions, and the Presenter replies.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:

Friday,      5/16        John Shewchuk    "Florida Tornadoes"
This talk is about the Groundhog Day tornado which hit The Villages in 2007.  While most were sleeping at 3 AM, it only took the tornado 5 minutes to leave a path of destruction across The Villages.  There was no loss of life, but there were numerous injuries as it damaged about 1,300 Villages homes. Learn why February is the worst month for Florida tornadoes, and learn why we are in a Doppler Radar dead zone.  A checklist of valuable tornado life-saving preparations will also be presented.

Friday,      5/23        Bob Altobello         "Oppenheimer - The Bhagavad Gita
We will explore the ethical ideals presented in The Bhagavad Gita and how those ideals animate much of the moral conflict with which Oppenheimer struggles throughout the entire Manhattan Project.

Friday,      5/30         Bob Horner       "Partners For Palestine"
Bob will explain the organization that is seeking peace and justice for all in the Middle East.

Friday,      6/6            Bill Sayer          "Acting On Principle"
The ethics of acting upon principle, and declining to do so. Attendees will be asked to briefly tell us of a past experience  either way, and their current thoughts on the propriety of that decision.

Friday,      6/13          Jim Foster        "Government By Executive Orders"

Friday,    6/20            Bill Sayer           "Acting On Principle - The Vietnam War"
