Our Mission

Crafting a mission statement is an integral part of attracting new
members and gaining nonprofit status. As such it is our most pressing
order of business. Here are my thoughts on crafting a mission
statement.
I am creating this group with the goal of fostering community
involvement and education in underprivileged areas. We will
accomplish this goal by offering services and classes to the people in
the communities that we create hackerspaces in. Services could
include access to the Internet, a space to incubate small businesses,
as well as various community improvement projects. We also need to
mention something about having a permanent presence in troubled
neighborhoods as I feel that is one of the primary benefits of a
hackerspace versus other more traditional charities. This solution
will not work without constant proximity to the community.
This is a team effort so I would appreciate it if everyone would
provide feedback in creating our mission statement.
