So I got curious and chose to explore.
I began by looking at when Village Discuss was created - Mar 15. This equates to ~9 months.
Then I took note of the number of unique threads - 35 (36 counting this new one). As I scanned, I noticed the name 'Nassim Haramein' in quite a few subject lines, 14 to be certain.
Still curious I investigated further:
25 threads are discussions on 'sciency' stuff
4 threads crossposted to VP & VD to functionally move them
162 total posts
This has saved an average of 18 emails per month coming into inboxes across Chicagoland and more. The bulk of these emails (131) happened in March saving otherwise joyful subscribers 131 messages in one month and an average of 3.4 unwarranted 'delete this fucking message too' angry click responses.
An interesting note to consider is the Cider Donuts thread, consisting of 45 messages in six days having 19 unique senders and only ONE offhanded comment to please take offlist, which was jestingly met with sarcasm about Nassim getting apples too.
A recently begun post on Neurofeedback has gotten 8 loving responses, another post on mindful information scored 13 responses before being left at the wayside, Avatar got a total of 34 in 6 posts and still never made it to village-discuss. Trippy visuals scored 8 then faded, 2012 got 9, Vaporized Nicotine got 12 and was started by the moderator, Exploding iPhones won 10, Meat Business Card scored 27 (my setup seems to view Village Post and Chicago List as one in the same, so excuse this triviality if incorrectly mined) and Swine Flu wraps up the count at 9 in March. Total - 175 posts since March 15 in a >8 msg ct filter. That makes 19.4 msgs per month that needed to be in the nearly unused Village Discuss message deferral system.
I'm annoyed. Can anyone explain to me again why Village Discuss was created and how it is being moderated? Or why it matters if some people choose to NOT setup their email perusal software to filter and instead allow every message to roll into their Inbox and we must all cater to that crowd? Or maybe defining for me the difference between a discussion and ... and what else I guess is the inquiry. What constitutes a post worthy of discussion and what constitutes a post worthy of posting and what constitutes a post worth of deleting and what constitutes a constitution in which we declare what posts are allowed in which forum? Is there a functional way to 'move' a post? Maybe a more discretionary method of poster-management could be employed so as to kindly entrain the actions of the posters into a more considerate posting habit, eg. temporarily banning users posting inquisitional type posts rather than no-response necessary type posts.
There's always the VERY simple idea of using the 'reply-all' feature nearly every email software in use today utilizes. It's really simple to off-list a discussion by REMOVING "village <
villag...@googlegroups.com>" from the to: field.
This is for informational use only. Please send all responses to:
Village...@googlegroups.com or email me directly. I don't want everyone to know what you have to say, and neither should you.
err, umm, yeah?

American jurors have complete Constitutional authority to vote "not guilty" based on nothing more than a disagreement with the case, no matter the evidence - despite the judge's instructions. There is absolutely no obligation to vote "guilty" to arrive at a unanimous verdict. Get on a jury, stand your ground, and fulfill its other main purpose: to counteract abusive government and unjust lawsuits.
