On Monday NPR’s Worldview interviewed Mark Braverman, and American Jew who visited the West Bank at age 58. He came back disturbed, which is the same reaction I’ve heard from Israeli soldiers. Listen to what he says.

 

Then the show interviewed Ruth Gavison, an Israeli who, I suppose, was meant to provide another point of view. I can’t figure out what point of view this is, since as far as I can tell

she agreed with the main points Braverman made.

Today we talk about Israel with two Jewish observers. Mark Braverman says he never questioned what he calls the “Zionist Narrative” of his Jewish roots...until he visited the West Bank. He’ll tell us about his current crisis of conscience. And, Jerome talks with Israeli scholar Ruth Gavison, who believes Israel receives unjust criticism for its human rights record and that Jewish self-determination need not conflict with democratic values.
