I had an idea recently and I was curious for feedback and possibly
volunteers for a project website.
The basic premise is that you would log in, contribute a minimum
donation, say $20 or so and you can submit projects to a list of
projects. Users would view this list and up-vote projects over a set
period and at the end of the period, the pooled donation money would
be given to the top ranked projects. The goal is provide an project
grant system where you decide directly where the group's money goes.
Projects can be art projects or anything that benefits the community.
Want to start a new co-op? Need some seed funds? Want to contribute to
a new computer lab or community space creation? The ideas are only
limited by what you can propose and funding goes to what the group
decides is the most valuable to the whole.
Please let me know what sorts of things you think would make this site
more attractive to the community, what aspects would make you
uncomfortable with participating, or any alternative ideas and
features. If you know about any legal issues or other problems I may
not have on my radar, please let me know.
Please reply off list or direct discussion to village-discuss if you
want to talk about this out in the open.
Thanks!
Spiral
The closest example I know is kickstarter. This complementary approach seems like if the funds were guaranteed to head out the door, then deserving projects would need to be guaranteed to exist.~*~
