Hi all,

With the unseasonably warm weather recently, my tenants are
complaining how hot the unit is (I own a 6th floor duplex). The A/C
units both shut off after a couple of minutes and I have been told
that the building will not be switched over to A/C until sometime in
May.

Are others experiencing the same issue with their individual A/C units
or are mine in need of repair?

Any help from your or your tenants would be much appreciated as mine
are extremely frustrated and I feel like I am unable to make the
situation any better

Thank you in advance!

The heating and A/C unit uses the same pipes, so they are mutually
exclusive. The building can't switch over to the A/C cooling water
until there is no chance they will need to heat the building. Heat is
required by law. A/C is a convenience. The beginning of last May was
very hot, but we actually did have a couple of cold nights after that
where heat was needed.

Also, window A/C units are not allowed.

P.s. - I personally have a freestanding A/C unit, the kind with the
hose that snakes up to your window to vent the hot air. I needed this
because our living room A/C unit has been broken for 3 years, and the
A/C guy has been unable to repair it.

Hi Justin,
I also own and rent out a unit in building a 6th fl duplex # 6112. I just heard from my tenant that the upstairs unit is tripping off.  What did you end up doing?  If you had your unit replaced please tell me if you were pleased with the contractor and approx. what it cost.  Also do you have a drainage problem in your shower drain.  We've had constant problem since we bought the place in 2006.  We've snaked it a dozen times and now believe it is a problem further down the drain line and not necessarily our drain.  If you've heard of others with this problem please let me know.

We found that if we have the AC on High Cool it keeps tripping off, and if we keep it on low cool it doesnt, and low cool keeps things nice and cool.    that seems to be working for now.
