Weare a high school running 10.8.5 on about 800 macairs. We have a configuration profile setup with a payload for Network. Wifi, SSID password, Proxy Setup "Manual", Proxy server "proxy.XXXX.XX", port 8080, authentication and password are blank since it is going to pull from the user login. Security type and password are entered.

The problem is that using this wiped out the *.local, 169.254/16 that was in the Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains, thus Airdrop no longer works. If I manual put that info in the student's box it allows airdrop to work, but I cannot possibly do that for 800 machines. Is there a way I can write a policy to have that put into the exceptions box?

Take a look at the man page in Terminal for "networksetup". ( man networksetup ) Although I've not had to do it myself, I'm pretty certain there's an option in there to programmatically enter those settings. I think the "-setproxybypassdomains" may be what you're looking for.

For a somewhat nicer look at man pages, type in networksetup in Terminal, highlight the whole term, right click on it and you should see a "Open man Page" as the first item in the list. Choose that and it opens a separate yellow backgrounded window that you can scroll easier through, even search against with Command-F.

we seam to have hit a wall with this new version, firstly the resolution provided for sophos central at present works great if the machine is only ever going to be going out via the "schools" proxied network. but and this is the big but.. Shock horror teachers use their laptops at home! every night and weekends and over the holidays.

the instructions below are that of support team for about 20 other schools all using sophos are as below but with the major bit which we cant swollow as its just nuts to think its ok to leave a machine unprotected!

and also heard that using a proxy pac file can help in having the machine point to a proxy or not when its away from school but how can i change the settings which you are saying to set up in command prompt which i would roll out via GPO?

it needs to updating in school and at home. simple no ifs or buts, sophos did it before it should be able to do it again and cant believe they have got it so messed up that its not as simple as before.

Now I am doing a project of MQTT protocol by using Arduino. I have an Arduino board and an Arduino Ethernet Shield. I use the ethernet shield to connect to Internet and the shield is connected to a net wire in my school. A proxy server is set in my school so everyone need to make proxy settings to connect outside networks. It's same to Arduino board. When I use the sample file of MQTT library, I need to modify the code. My code is below:

I'd suggest that you either do your testing in a different environment without a proxy, or see if you can plug your arduino into something 'upstream' of the proxy and get access to the internet without it.

Aims: Although recent studies have found significant variations in adolescent alcohol consumption across neighbourhoods, these investigations did not address another important context in adolescents' lives: schools. The purpose of this study was to not only simultaneously assess variations in adolescent alcohol use and binge drinking at the city district level and the school level but also analyse whether any such variations could be ascribed to the socioeconomic characteristics of the examined city districts, schools, and students.

Measurements: Two measures based on information regarding alcohol consumption were constructed: alcohol use (no or yes) and binge drinking among alcohol users (ranging from "very seldom" to "a few times a week"). A wide range of socioeconomic characteristics was included at the city district, school, and student levels. Alcohol use was analysed using mixed-effects logistic regression, whereas binge drinking among users was modelled using mixed-effects ordered logistic regression.

Findings: The results indicated that the school was more important than the city district in assessments of contextual variations in adolescent alcohol use in general and binge drinking in particular. Moreover, proportions of well-educated parents and high-performing students accounted for part of the school-level variation in alcohol use but not binge drinking.

Certain UCLA Anderson resources (e.g., online databases) are restricted to use by current UCLA Anderson students, faculty, and staff. Other resources are also available for use by members of the entire UCLA or University of California communities.

The UCLA Anderson Proxy Server allows authorized Anderson School users off-campus access to licensed resources [ except inside office buildings or at internship sites, or anywhere else in which another proxy server or a firewall may be in place].

To configure your Web browser, please see the instructions covering Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari on the Anderson Computing and Information Services proxy server instructions page for Library Research Databases ( network credentials may or may not be required to view the page)

Library Proxy accounts are strictly for individuals conducting research on behalf of a member of the Harvard teaching faculty. This credential is not for personal research or personal access to library resources.

The library can assign up to 5 active proxies per Faculty sponsor . The Faculty sponsor assumes responsibility for all fines and other liabilities from the account. All correspondence related to the proxy account goes to the Faculty sponsor, not the proxy.

Recent regulatory changes increasing shareholder voting authority have focused attention on the role of proxy advisors. In particular, greater shareholder empowerment raises the question of how much proxy advisors influence voting outcomes.

If you are looking for an almost free solution then look to SQUID. You can either setup a linux distribution (my choice because it is default in almost all distros) or use the windows installation . If you follow these instructions you can setup AD integration with SQUID.

If you want all of this stuff integrated into an appliance, look at pfSense . While pfSense is primary a firewall, you can also set it up inside your network and load in the option modules for squid and Dansguardian .

All we need it for is a caching proxy, but when we add a proxy we loose the ability to have auth from HQ so we need to make something ourself. So If it could intergrate and get username/passwords out of AD that would solve heaps of issues.

You will need to authenticate with the HQ proxy server, which Squid can do also. You will supply a valid user ID and password to squid so it can us that to authenticate with the HQ proxy. The HQ IT group will see only activity from one account at your site. This will be your squid server, since all site users will be authenticating with your local server.

I would like to ask someone to be one of the godparents for our child when he/she is born in October. However, she lives very far away, works for the Church and has many obligations, so she may not be able to make it.

I've always heard of "godparents by proxy" but when I did some research on it, I see there's division as to whether or not it's ACTUALLY allowed, since Canon Law makes no mention of it.

I decided to bring it to my Phamily ... do any of you know anything about godparents by proxy, and what is allowed? Is it preferable just to pick someone else if they themselves can't be present?

You might post in the Q&A... the people that would most likely know the answer are more likely to see it there.

My godparent situation was kind of unusual... my godfather was my uncle, but his wife was Episcopalian, so my godmother was a woman that I guess went to the church where I was baptized, but we have never kept in touch. So I literally know nothing about my godmother... I actually can't even recall her name. Personally I would think it would be better to have a godmother that wouldn't actually be able to be at the baptism but would still be involved in the child's life than someone that could be there physically but is not close enough to the family to stay involved. It seems to me that's the whole point. But ideally, of course, you would want both... and I really don't know about what is actually allowed or not.

When I was confirmed my grandmother was my sponsor, because my godfather is no longer a practicing Catholic and I haven't had any contact with my godmother. But the day of my confirmation my grandfather had to go to the hospital, so my mom went up with me for the confirmation, if I remember correctly. So I guess that was a confirmation by proxy... All of the paperwork says my grandmother was my sponsor, but she wasn't there.
