I recently got a new computer and it has an Intel GPU built in and an Nvidia GPU. Regular Minecraft uses the Nvidia one without issue but I can't seem to figure out how to get Tekkit or Technic to use it. I tried telling the computer to use the GPU when running the technic launcher but that didn't work.
Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. Go to Manage 3D Settings on the left. Under the Global Settings tab, change the Preferred graphics processor to the NVIDIA card, and under the Program Settings tab, click Add next to the drop box for programs, go find java.exe and javaw.exe, and you might as well add Minecraft and the Technic Launcher as well. Apply and close. Voila!
You need to tell it to always use the GPU when dealing with either Java in general, or do so for modpack.jar and minecraft.jar in the .techniclauncher folder. The launcher is only active for a moment, after that it just launches a special version of minecraft.
I started up technic, went into task manager and looked. It says technic was using Java.exe. I right clicked on it then clicked "Open file location" It brought me to the jre7 folder to the Java.exe file. I went into the GPU settings and told it to use the high performance GPU on Java.exe. It's still not using it for tekkit/technic.
My problem was that I added the java and javaw applications that were in /Program Files (x86)/java/bin, but after checking in the task manager, I found out it was using the applications located in /Program Files/java/bin. After adding those my GPU is being used whenever I launch Tekkit or Voltz.
I hope this can be of help to anyone having the same issue with Tekkit and/or Voltz. And remember, if you have the program open, you can always use the task manager to find the location of the .exe by right clicking the task you are curious about.
Also there have been, from what I hear, some issues involving skins on the Launcher. Upload your skin to your account on Minecraft.net, and it'll be on your character on the Launcher. It may not show up on the Launcher but it'll show up in-game.
Not only is this a total necro, but this would only make you see the default skin as whatever you put without solving the original problem (?), is (in a small way) advocating piracy, and the technic launcher doesn't even use the .techniclauncher directory any more....
Oh, you've been insulted. By one person. On the internet. It wasn't even really that much of an insult, and I, in fact, meant it as criticism rather than attacking you. Here's some advice, if you'll take it: a thicker skin does the community a world of good.
The reason it might show up incorrectly in the launcher (White head) is because Paint can't handle transparency. So it colours all transparent parts white instead, including the parts where your "hat" goes. Minecraft recognizes this and will simply not show the hat at all, but Technic Launcher doesn't and your head will be covered with white.
I have already tried deleting the .technic folders in roaming and having the launcher redownload everything. Speaking of redownloading, I already tried that with the launcher as well. I tried restarting my computer, running as administrator, and I even tried logging in with a friend's account. I restarted my router and modem, everything. Nothing seems to be working.
The Minecraft Servers are all up and running, it's only Technic that won't connect me to Minecraft.net and I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm almost positive that this question has multiple answers from browsing around on other places, but none of those "solutions" have worked.
i got a feeling its got somthing to do with the new minecraft launcher I got for the horse update because it started after i got it and in the main menu "In the tekkit one" Its advertising the new launcher.
Recently I've been having an error about not being able to authenticate my Minecraft account when trying to launch Technic offline. I've downloaded the launcher and the Tekkit pack (thanks to my phone) but I've been reading there is a way to play offline - unfortunately, I don't know that way...
@Melfic - thanks for that; though I've done this (in order to download the Tekkit pack), and all the while connected to the internet. Perhaps needing a fresh installation of both Minecraft and the Technic launcher are needed?
@Vivacity - thanks, but as it turns out I'm not currently using an anti-virus software (I'm currently downloading one as we speak). I'm thinking I need some kind of internet connection for the Technic launcher to work as it errors out with "cannot authenticate account with Minecraft.net". This would appear, to me, that it needs to connect to Minecraft.net in order to check my credentials, though I'm not entirely certain why (I have a legit account)...
I was wondering how I would go about pinning Technic or Tekkit to my taskbar (Windows 7) I found a way to do it with default minecraft, and tried to use the same way in technic. I'm assuming it's probably not possible because of how the launcher works?
In the first section of the image, I have Technic opened the way you said, problem being, is that it is on my taskbar twice. Whereas, with MC, the way I have it launch is only on my taskbar once, which is the way I'd like to launch Technic or Tekkit bypassing the launcher essentially, kind of pointless to me, having to login every time I open it, it likes to crash and waiting 15+ seconds to launch isn't too bad if it happens once or twice, but it seems to be crashing every hour or so.
There are two icons because there are two programs, the launcher and technic itself. Doesn't happen with normal minecraft as there's no separation like that. You can't bypass the launcher. If it's crashing, go post on the bug board, maybe get that fixed.
Any Java program I've used that has a "launcher" which opens the actual program, even if the launcher has no visual representation, does that. Lemmini is one example I can think of; I have it pinned to my Taskbar, but when I open it, it opens a seperate icon on the taskbar.
while it is probably not impossible, in that given enough time and motivation such a feature could be implemented, it is most likely not going to happen. basically, don't hold your breath. for now, you'll have to live with 2 icons on your task bar.
I have this problem as well so clearly it has not been fixed properly. I have tried everything I can think of. Technic Launcher doesn't even appear when I search it into my start menu! PLEASE look into this problem because I have to re-download it each time to access it!
When I try to start technic a few seconds in the game crashes and i get the error "[B#591] File version.json not found in C:\Users\lucas\AppData\Roaming\.technic\modpacks\tekkit\bin\modpack.jar" The same problem occurs when i try starting Tekkit Lite. Starting Vanilla minecraft through the technic launcher works fine though. Perhaps the problem is with a specific mod that the 2 modpacks share. Searched just about every forum post and tried their solutions
Whenever I try to launch a modpack through the Technic Launcher or just launch Minecraft by itself directly downloaded from the website and clean installed I get nothing. No game launch, no modpack launch, absolutely nothing. I've tried different clean install versions of java to no avail, anybody seen a similar problem and hopefully a fix?
I'll try a clean install of technic in a folder with single word name, check if it makes a difference.
Have already tried it in standard folder once which is no spaces, but never know what'll work!
Okay, so I've found somewhat of a workaround, at least for my problem.
I created a .bat file with this command
It's running the exact command for java that the launcher does, except I'm asking java instead of javaw, I've no idea what the difference is, but at least it works.
Hopefully someone can get something out of it! The commands I've got here is for the launch of The 1.7.10 pack
I just simply reinstalled the GPU drivers. I have iGPU (Intel HD Graphics 610), but it might work for other videocards as well. Go to Device manager, Uninstall the Video card drivers (screen might start blinking). Reboot your PC Open Device Manager again. You might see Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Right click, Update driver, Search automatically for new driver. It will reinstall your GPU. After that, start the game. It worked for me, not 100% it will do for you, but worth a try.
ZoneAlarm firewall keeps blocking requests from the launcher and mods in-game, do we have a list of the various files that send these requests? While I can whitelist each individual IP, I'd rather just whitelist the file sending them as it's quicker. And please, do not suggest just turning my firewall off, that's not an option.
Actually no Warpspeed, it's my home computer. I have easy access to it, I simply don't LIKE turning my firewall or antivirus off for anything, as it seems to be an unnecessary risk compared to the much simpler and long-term fix of whitelisting the files that need access to the net. That's why i'm asking for the list of files to whitelist, since having Java, the launcher, the technic jar, and the minecraft jar in the technicssp folder doesn't seem to cut it, which honestly is everything I can think of that should reasonably have any purpose attempting to ping out.
I'm not worried about the Technic pack. I keep a firewall on to keep outside attacks out as well as block internal stuff. If I was honestly concerned about Technic being bad, I wouldn't install it, so I trust it pretty much completely at this point. However, it's irritating to me to have to open my firewall up and disable it, then re-enable it each time I start up minecraft, and beyond just the annoyance factor I also don't like taking down the security I have for any length of time if I can avoid it.
