Corey Sanoy will be demonstrating the Java micro-framework Spring Boot :-)

 

Spring Boot is newish attempt by the Spring community to provide some of the capabilities of newer development techniques while maintaining a high degree of control over the codebase for the life of the application.

Main goals of Boot:

-Provide a radically faster and widely accessible getting started experience for all Spring development.
-Be opinionated out of the box, but get out of the way quickly as requirements start to diverge from the defaults.
-Provide a range of non-functional features that are common to large classes of projects (e.g. embedded servers, security, metrics, health checks, externalized configuration).
-Absolutely no code generation and no requirement for XML configuration.

Demo!

Cory is going to demonstrate the simplicity of developing a Spring Boot application by building one on the fly. It will demonstrate the following capabilities.

-A simple web application calendar
-Creation of an Event object with Hibernate and JPA
-Use of a Rest interface to retrieve Event objects from server
-Incorporation of jQuery and fullcalendar.js libraries in the the web application.
-Thymeleaf templates for web page delivery
-incorporation of AngularJS (if time permits)

Afterwards we shall retire to one of the many fine nearby taverns and partake of an ale.
