The song "Pound Cake" has a unique beginning and introduction to it, as it starts off with a man saying a speech in a deep voice of how hip-hop was back in the day. The introduction tends to give listeners chills, because it is said calmly, boldly, and straight-forward, reminding most of a Morgan Freeman scene. It is followed by a short hook, and right after is when Drake begins his first verse. That is followed by the actual hook of the song, which in turn leads to Jay-Z's first verse. The song reaches it's end when Jay-Z's second verse is rapped and the hook is played. This song's music and rhythm matches perfectly with Drake's and Jay-Z's tone, because both rappers use a calm, egotistical ambitious tone. The background music is made up of a girl humming and playing a slow beat, where Drake and Jay-Z take turns rapping about their careers. Drake raps mostly about his high school days, where no one would pay too much attention to him. Now that he made it as a rapper, his friends are trying to get back in touch with him just cause he is a celebrity and is ahead of most rappers. He is considering making an appearance to his high school reunion, but will make sure his friends pass by security clearance, and not allow the ones that he did not know to talk to him or see him. Jay-Z raps about his money and claims that he is still the richest rapper alive. He brags about his money and says that he gets "cake" wherever he goes, which refers to all the money he has. He also raps about how he spends it all on nights of drinking and partying with his friends. The rhyme scheme shifts often throughout the song, but both rappers rhyme the last words at the end of each line frequently, using an anadiplosis rhyme scheme. During Drake's verse, he rhymes four words together in four consequent lines, making his rap sound even more legit and respectable. Jay-Z does the same, rather with the same word, in seven consequent lines. The style is spot on for both rappers, because it is slow and it makes one reminisce and regret the fact that they should have taken action during certain times back in the day, to affiliate themselves more with the popular and the rich. It also makes one's ego shrink, when Jay-Z raps about all the money. The rap also allows both artists to show some sort of arrogance in their verses, and show that they are still on top of their game. Because it is rap, people know that it will be about something that reimburses their careers, and makes them look rich and famous. If the song was rock 'n' roll, then it would have had a significantly faster pace and would have more anger to release. If Disturbed was the artist to this song, then he would have used more vulgar language and would not have chosen a slower beat to make his song under. The style heavily relies on the artists' style and their tendencies, which also requires a specific type of beat to best suit that artist's style, tone, and poetic talent.
