15th Annual Corporate Golden Piggy Awards
set for April 1st, All Fools Day.
The 15th Annual Corporate Golden Piggy Awards are set
for presentation on, of all days, All Fools Day. The show that pokes fun at the
rich and the powerful and has been entertaining activists on South Vancouver
Island since 1997 will be held on April 1st, 2:00 PM at St. Ann's Academy
Auditorium in Victoria, Coast Salish Territory. St. Ann's Academy is at 835
Humboldt Street.
"More than anything it's a chance for progressives to
get together to have a good laugh," says show producer Art Farquharson. "I've
been with this show since its inception and we're not changing anyone's mind.
Our audience members are the hardened fighters and the downtrodden. They're the
99%. Trade unionists, peace activists, liberation theologists, communists,
socialists, anarchists, Occupy Victorians, Raging Grannies, indebted students,
harm reductionists, feminists etc. etc. etc."
The great American commentator and humourist Molly
Ivins once said, "Satire is the weapon of the powerless against the powerful."
"Anyone who has been disciplined in the workplace for lampooning the boss knows
this is true. The powerful are especially sensitive to being laughed at," says
Farquharson.
So the poor and struggling and the visionaries who
see the the Emperor has no clothes will gather on All Fools Day, give away
Cochons d'Or to those who seem to have it all, sing a few songs and reinvigorate
their efforts with some laughter. Formal Attire is optional.
Where: St. Ann's Academy Auditorium, 835
