Greetings,   

*15th Annual Big Meadows Luncheon with Rose River Splashdown*  Beginning at the Rose River trailhead (38.514369,-78.365867), we will climb the Fire Road, Upper Dark Hollow Trail, and Rapidan Fire Road to Big Meadows Lodge for a leisurely lunch. The lunch menu is available at https://www.goshenandoah.com/dining/big-meadows-lodge/lunch-and-dinner-menu.  For the more vigorously inclined, there is an option to visit President Hoover's Rapidan Camp via the Rapidan Fire Road and Mill Prone Horse Trail.  After lunch, we will descend the Dark Hollow Falls Trail and the Rose River Fire Road to the trailhead.  There is an opportunity for a refreshing splashdown in the Rose River at the trailhead.  See the attached map for more details; about 16 miles with 2600 ft of ascent in green or about 18 miles and 3000 ft. of ascent with the Hoover Camp extension in pink.

Hikers wishing to carpool should meet no later than 7:00 AM at the Centerville Park and Ride off I66, exit 52, Centerville.  Go west on Rt 29 taking the 2nd right into the park and ride, then immediately turn left to the corner of the lot where our group gathers.  (See: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/riders/stone-road )    

Please let me know if you plan to meet me at Centreville or the Rose River trailhead at 8:45 AM at the end of VA 670.  From Sperryville, south on VA 231 to right on VA 643 to Syria, then right on VA 670.

It was great seeing you at lunch today.  Glad the recovery is making progress.  We are counting on you hiking to lunch with us next year!  You looked great and perhaps stronger than you feel but that is a good sign.

I'm getting this out early, since I'll be in WV's Cranberry Wilderness and New River Gorge NP for the rest of the week on a shakedown for my PCT hike this summer. I'll be back next Sunday to respond to your questions. 

For All Past, Emeritus, and Injured Reserve Hikers:  You are encouraged to join us around noon for the Big Meadows luncheon.  If there is interest, we can coordinate a carpool.  Please let me know if you're coming and if you'd like to carpool.
