Good afternoon everyone,
Sierra Club PRO Leader Dave Torraca just sent me a message about the closing of trailhead parking for the Thompson Hollow Trail in Shenandoah National Park. Located near the town of Bentonville in Warren County off of U.S. Route 340 in the Shenandoah Valley,
parking at the end of Thompson Hollow Road was always allowed in order to hike into Shenandoah National Park. This is no longer the case. Warren County has now banned trailhead parking, and failed to post the proper signs advertising the change. Dave and his
hiking friends discovered the parking change the hard way when they found their cars had been towed after returning from their hike. With the help of the local sheriff they were able to retrieve their cars but only at a high cost. Its expected that clearly
marked signs will eventually be posted to inform the public that parking is now illegal at the end of Thompson Hollow Road.
