Tues Oct 7th Hannah Run Broad Hollow loop

Good morning hikers!

Tuesday's hike will start at Broad Hollow Trail parking near the end of SR 681 Rolling Rd     https://maps.app.goo.gl/B117jquBkKH9qit77 or 38.594292, -78.272189 Please try to arrive on time for an 8:30am hike start

This is one for lovers of hills - clocking in at 4,760 feet over 17.5 miles, Hannah Run in particular is one of my favorites for getting the heart pumping!

Route Description:

Head down Rolling Rd a short way to Pine Hill Gap Tr.

Ascend 3 miles and turn left onto Hot Short Mountain Tr

Descend 2 miles and turn right on Nicholson Hollow

Go just 0.2 miles and fork right onto Hannah Run Tr

after crossing the stream and ascending steep stairs turn left at the junction to stay on Hannah run and ascend to Pinnacles Overlook and Skyline Dr

This point is 9 miles in but with 3750 ft climbing done we will regroup and possibly sit on the wall for lunch.

turn left and walk down Skyline drive 1 mile and bushwack north 0.1 miles to the AT

OR walk 1.3 miles and take Leading Ridge Tr a short way to AT

Turn right on AT and go 2 miles North to Meadows Spring Tr

Turn Right and descend to Skyline Dr over Meadows Spring Parking (a late lunch spot?) and turn right on the trail below the parking area

Descend 4 miles on Hazel Mountain Tr  

Turn right at the T junction to descend back to cars on Broad Hollow Tr

To carpool: Hikers wishing to carpool should meet at the Centreville Park and Ride off I-66, exit 52, Centreville. Arrive early enough so that drivers can depart the lot no later than 7:00 AM.  Go west on Rt 29 taking the 2nd right into the park and ride lot, then immediately turn left to the corner of the lot where our group gathers. Please let me know if you will meet at the carpool lot so we can coordinate to have enough drivers.

PLEASE NOTE - The Shenandoah National Park is currently OPEN despite the Federal Gov Shutdown and is expected to remain that way, with some facilities closed and possibly limited rescue services. In the unlikely event it is closed to all visitors before Tuesday I will send out another email with an alternative plan. Please monitor if you plan to attend
