Tuesday's hike starts at 8:30 from the Shenandoah River State Park Visitor Center (Daughter of Stars Dr, Bentonville, VA 22610; 38.857701, -78.307639). We will follow the attached plan (thanks, Josh - I just made a tiny adjustment at the end of your route). Hikers who wish to abbreviate the hike to 14 1/2 miles will be able to bypass the final 3.2 mile loop. We will stop for lunch at a shelter about 9 miles in (restrooms available).
Notes:
The weather should be comparatively decent, and much of the route is shaded. The trails overall are in great condition, but there is one area that could be pretty muddy and buggy. There are at least three overlooks with good views of the river and valley beyond.
Approx.17.5 miles, 2000' elevation. Leader: Andrew Heron 301-526-9372.
TO CARPOOL: Hikers wishing to carpool should meet at the Centreville Park and Ride off I-66, exit 52, Centreville. Go west on Rt 29 taking the 2nd right into the parking and ride, then immediately turn left to the corner of the lot where our group gathers. (See: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/riders/stone-road ) Please see the map and hiking directions attached. Let me know if you will be meeting at the carpool area or joining us at the trailhead.
