Great! What a surprise! My favorite poet is here. Thank you for sharing
with us your poem, chi. Ha?o. I like it quite a bit. I will spend some time
to translate it into English to share with you and everyone.

For you who are not very familiar with Vietnamese literature, chi. Vo~ Thi.
Ha?o is a novelist, poet and journalist from Vietnam, currently visiting the
US in the International Writers Program along with a number of writers from
other countries, under the sponsorship of the US Information Agency (now in
the US Department of State). She is the head of the Phu Nu Newspaper of HCMC
office in Hanoi. (I used to write for this paper often several years ago).

Good to see you here, chi. Ha?o. Please feel free to send in some more of
your poems. And I will translate them.

Thank you for the generous note on my piece, chi. Ha?o. Coming from you, it
made my day! (Just please promise me that whenever you don't like my poem,
please don't say anything in public. Just send me a private hush-hush note.
Of course, when you like it, please feel free to let the whole world know. I
promise I won't get upset :-)

Anyway, below is my translation of chi. VTH's Nhu+~ng Co^'c Chie^`u, to share
with chi. Ha?o and everyone. I hope I didn't ruin your poem, chi Ha?o. I
wish to see some more poems from you.

The evening beers

The man bows his head
Forehead hair dipping the sunset
Innards burning
Heart emptying
Splitting the autumn moon
Nibbling the summer sun
Carrying five seasons zigzagging floating through the streets

Don’t close the eyes
Nor bow the head
Don’t cry

Wait for the food
From the huge wok that fries memories crisp
From the Volcano
The evening glasses
Foam
Spilling over the dead-end town…
