[vnforum] - Mesg from Tran Dinh Hoanh <hoa...@erols.com>
Dear All,
Just a continuing note Doing Something Together. We need to keep new
thinking and new activities on the roll at all times, guys. Remember,
at the bottom line, creativity and innovation only mean getting off your
rear and doing something. Without work, all the theoretical discussions
and expositions about creativity and innovation are meaningless. We,
Vietnamese in particular and Asian in general, tend to sit and meditate
and concentrate and ponder and do Zen, and look down on action with
disdain. And if someone moves, a lot of other ones secretly wish him
failure. (Wow, am I letting a big cat out of the bag!) It is in our
blood, guys. We need to see it and not to pretend that we are so noble
like Zen masters. (A note on Zen Buddhism: If you understand Zen, we
will see that Zen and action are not mutually exclusive, as many people
misunderstand).
Anyway, so much of winding bablling :-) I hope that anh Tie^'n will
continue brainstorming and planning on his English school Share your
thought and concern, anh Tien, and we will support you. That is a
promise.
We are doing nicely on the Mekong Flood Relief Fund Raising, in
conjunction with VNHELP. Please chip in, brothers/sisters. And we hope
that brothers/sisters at VNHELP will continue to share information on
its work with us regularly so that we can stand by you all the time, as
well as see one more piece of the large picture.
Same thing with chi. Quynh Kieu project for the poor in remote areas of
Vietnam. If you have regular newsletter or report or whatever, please
feel free to share it with us.
Any other brothers/sisters who want to do something, start some project,
please feel free to throw your idea out here so that we can share your
enthusiasm, chip in our experience and knowledge, and lend you our
support.
And that includes both for-profit and not-for-profit works. If you want
to open a company or an NGO, talk with us. We can form international
organizations together, you know. There is no reason why a bunch of us
in- and outside the country cannot form some NGO or business enterprise
together, either Vietname-based or based outside Vietnam. The
possibility is unlimited if we (1) start to search our heart to see what
we LOVE to do, (2) talk about it, and (3) do something about it.
I am still planning on the two books. Will let you know. There are
other things that can be done. We can have a group translating
Vietnamese literature into English. Anyone wants to do that? We can
do some small NGO project together, for the poor, for young students.
How about annual English writing competition for college students, to
promote English? How about forming a US-based marketing company to
market Vietnamse products? Guys, the possibility is unlimited. Just
think, think and think. We Vietnamese are lousy at creativity and
innovation. There must be a reason that we are among the poorest in the
world after four thousand years va(n hie^'n . Gosh, I thought four
thousand years was not too short of a time to get somewhere! Why don't
they have some Olympic medal for Turtle Champ? Our chance of winning
some medal will be greatly improved then. Stop blaming the imperialists
and colonialists and all-otherists. And stop all the cheap quarreling.
And look at ourselves with all honesty and humility. Then maybe we
would be able to go somewhere.
Anyway, what do you want to do? Say it. OK, guys?
Have a great day!
Hoanh

Dear Brother Vinh,
Great, brother. I am very happy to see your note! Please do tell us when you
have a plan in mind. We'll be with you.
Thanks for the note and have a great day!
Hoanh
PS: I think "Dear Tran Dinh Hoanh" sounds like one of those letters we see in
our mail on almost a daily basis that says, "Dear Homeowner," "Dear Tenant,"
"Dear Hoanh D. Tran." :-) :-) Why don't we just make life simpler on each
other by just calling each other brother and sister :-) :-) Great day!
