Greetings, V-o-H-ers !

First, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

(2021 can't help but be better than 2020!)

It's been a looong time since l'Indochine and I have (sadly) fallen out of touch with so many of you … so perhaps this is a way of getting back IN touch!!

On Tuesday (January 5) my new book A Red Line in the Sand: Diplomacy, Strategy, and the History of Wars that Might Still Happen  is being officially published by Pegasus (distributed by Simon & Shuster). Monday, the 12-episode podcast based on the book will be debuting on Evergreen Podcasts

On Friday, January 8 at 6 pm, the Overseas Press Club of America will be hosting a Book Night for A Red Line, with my interlocutor Deborah Amos of NPR.  It's free & all are welcome to RSVP & sign on (no membership required!)…. You'll recall that last month, I hosted a similar event for our own Jim Laurie … a great success !!

Sunday morning, The Washington Post's first Book World of 2021 published a review on its first page!  If you read it online, you can even scroll down and see my 2-part riposte/comment!

The book has some marvelous (imho) sections on the South China Sea and its surroundings, with a number of cameos from Vietnam and its ASEAN neighbors.  And will be available across Australia and Singapore for those in the area from Amazon….

BTW, PLEASE, IF YOU'RE INCLINED TO BUY IT IN BOOK OR KINDLE, DO SO ON JANUARY 5 (Tuesday)….. tryin' to get my Amazonnumbers up!!!

;-))

Still, some folks already seem to have liked it a lot, to whit:

“As we are learning every day, the world is an ever more dangerous place, on a hair trigger from East to West, North to South. David Andelman, one of our most experienced national security journalists, gives us a timely, insightful analysis of the dangers and prospective solutions in this very welcome book.” — Tom Brokaw, NBC News

“If you’re taking bets on where the next war will break out, this is essential reading.” — Kirkus

“Andelman moves briskly and confidently through these various hotspots, drawing on decades of experience reporting on international affairs. The result is a worthy introduction to a wide range of simmering regional conflicts that threaten global peace.” — Publishers Weekly

Do good fences make good neighbors? Does intervention cost more lives than it saves? From the Ramayana to Syria, Andelman takes us on a sweeping tour of every important place where arbitrary borders and diplomatic bluffs intersect. Before deciding on how to tackle North Korea, Russia, Iran, and other hotspots, the next president needs to read this book.

American journalist and international relations expert David A. Andelman’s latest book, A Red Line in the Sand: Diplomacy, Strategy, and the History of Wars That Could Still Happen, arriving in the midst of the coronavirus crisis as international relations continue to deteriorate following Donald Trump's erratic diplomacy from China and Russia to the Middle East, even Europe, is both immediate and forward-looking — a sharp analysis of the situation in the many of the hottest areas of our planet.

Patrice de Beer, former, Indochina correspondent; Bangkok, Washington and London Bureau Chief and editorialist for Le Monde

“A book with broad ambitions, [and] a  thorough primer on conflict or potential conflict zones around the globe, from North Korea to Iran to the eastern provinces of Congo. Along the way, Andelman weaves into the narrative several episodes from his remarkable journalistic career. A commendable work."—The Washington Post
