Carl put me in touch with Phuoc in 1977 when he was living in Burbank with Hoa & their children, Dem & Tuan. He was at the time working at Spectra color lab in Burbank where he eventually became manager. I helped Phuoc st up a studio and get a good deal on a Hassleblad camera system to do portraits. He still believed AP would call him back, but as I wrote in the attached story, the phone never rang. The published NPPA newsletter was. sent to Peter Arnettt in NY who was passing it around AP when he was told to cease his activity. Later Arnett left AP where he became a CNN star war correspondent. I remained close friends with Phuoc & Hoa for many years with them eventually buying a house in Walnut, CA. Tragedy struck in the 1990s when Tuan, then 19, died suddenly in his sleep of a brain. aneurysm. The family was devastated and became very withdrawn. I didn't see Phuoc again until 1994. Phuoc was buried next to his son, Tuan.
