My latest Substack...  I’ve been watching Vietnam’s tightening cycle for years, but this one unfolded in real time. Hồng Thái Hoàng — a plain‑speaking Facebook voice from Hanoi — was arrested this week under Article 117, the state’s catch‑all speech offence used to criminalise criticism. Her posts were open, ordinary, unguarded. The state’s response was anything but. I’ve written about the pattern, the timing, and the eerie clarity of watching a dissident go down in broad daylight.
