Dear QuocLoc TRAN

I received your e-mail but, I thought my mail system was not big enough to carry 10MB of data in the single mail and that was true when I click on the file and select download on the gmail.  The binary gmapsupp.img I received was only 2.3MB and it was truncated.  Today, I used FlashGet and did the download again because I got your message and it looks like it was successful.   I didn't have time to look at many area but, it is very good map.  I wonder how you created this beautiful map!      Let me take a look at this map and I would like to give you my feedback.

thank you very much in advance.

Thanks, Tran, OK  that is fine. :D

I can tell that the gratest things on this map is how somebody imported the road data and the wather body data.    I found some road or transpotation GIS vector data but, those did not come with the name of the road.   The map you sent me contains "label" of the major road.    Water body data seems to be similar or more detail to SWBD data which can retrived from NOAA database.

HCMC map covers major streets with those labels.  That is great and it covers more wide area than the one I made.  (Mine only covers Quan 1, 3 and few more only)

One strange thing was this map has 10 LOD (level of details).   But, some levels such as 5 are missing. So, I should appears on and off when you tried to zoom out this map on GPS which is very strange.

best regards,

Garminmap.

Hi Garminmap,

I observed the same thing when reviewing the map. The property
allocation needs some improvements and it was discussed with pvnguyen.
I think it's a result of combining 2 or more maps together without
checking how many layers (levels) each map has. I hate to say this but
I think the best way is to start over again, break the maps into
individual maps, each has only one layer. Merge the maps of the same
zoom level then make one map contain all the levels.

Well, the map itself is not bad especially for the water body and some major cities.    Now I removed extra empty layers of this map and also simplified the layers to merge all of them in 4 layers standard format.

I personally don't like too busy map.   I set my own criteria of the zoom level according to the usage.

Level0: Walking/Bicycle (0-20km/hour)
Level1: Local Driving on Vehicle (15-60km/h)
Level2: Inter-city Driving on Vehicle (40-100km/h)
Level3: Aviation or Locating cities (100km/h or more)

I home that somebody can take look at my modified version when I complete it.   The source file became 135MB and I don't know I can compile this size of the source.   I often get error on the object when I compiled more than 100MByte of source code..   I will let you know once I can create IMG file.   It may take few more days...  Stay tuned!

Hi All,

I've got contact with Vinacarta (vinacarta.com) .
He agree to give me some testing data that he have in
the format that we need. I woulk like to know what is
format most appropriate that you can import to make
our maps.

Thank you for any info.
Best regards.

Hi,

Regarding address to coordinates conversion, I think the most popular
one as far as I know is google map API. The technical introduction
to this XML based API is here. This is simple XML file to handle text
in UTF-8 code and returns coordinates in the body of XML.

http://www.developer.com/db/article.php/3621981

Making API to compatible to google will gives us a lot of benefit to
make software change to minimum.
