Format and Suggestions for Final-term Speaking Test
• Two candidates called randomly enter the test room. They are asked
by two examiners at the same time.
• Questions are based on the 8 topics.
• The test lasts about 10 minutes, including 3 parts:
1. Introduction:
- Examiners will ask you some casual questions, in fact, to
make you comfortable for the test.
- For example:
Where are you from?
Can you tell me something about yourself?
Can you introduce briefly about you?
Do you like this kind of weather?
--> Suggestions:
- Feel free to say anything you can think of but it is
advised for you to prepare in advance something interesting to attract
examiners for the very first time.
- Do not give a very long answer. 2-4 sentences are enough.
2. Individual talk:
- Two candidates choose one question card. The question is
about describing things/people; there are suggestions for your answer.
- You have 1-2 minutes to prepare.
- Each candidate will take turn to talk individually within 1
minute non-stop.
Examples: <topic: tourism=""></topic:>
Describe a place you wish to
visit in your life.
You should mention:
Where it is
Who you go with
What to do/see there
Why you go to this place
--> Suggestions:
- Surely you can answer in the way you like but within short time
given to prepare, it is wise to base on the suggestions so that you
can more easily find ideas for the response.
- Practice keeping talking up to 1 minute
3. Pair discussion
- Two candidates are given one or two questions to discuss. The topic
is the same as in individual part.
- For example: If you are asked the question like in the example
above, in part 3, you may be asked:
1. Someone often wants to travel abroad but has no idea about his own
country beauty/landscapes. What do you think about this?
2. As a visitor, what are criteria for an ideal place for you to pay it a visit?
--> Suggestions:
- Make it no more than 3 minutes à go straight into the question.
- As it’s a discussion, two candidates must show that they
know how to exchange ideas or connect with each other. à DO NOT talk
separately but make it like a conversation.
- You can have a better mark if you can balance the talking
time and show that you can support your partner speaking.
Remember two things: smile :) and be confident ^0^. WE – the examiners
– love you all! :D
