I moved my trees around to make the Forgotten Lands easier to navigate since the camera often gets obscured by trees (hate that but that's for a different thread lol). 3 days ago, only one dark wood dropped. Yesterday and today I had zero. Is this a new bug?? Is anyone else seeing this?
Darkwood is a survival horror video game developed and published by Acid Wizard Studio. The game was first released through Steam Early Access on July 24, 2014, eventually becoming a full game release on August 17, 2017[1] for Linux, macOS, and Windows.[2] The game takes place in a mysterious dark forest somewhere in the Polish People's Republic or according to the developers, another region of the Soviet Bloc[3] wherein the main characters have been trapped. On March 20, 2019, a Nintendo Switch version was announced during the Nindies Nintendo Direct and was released on May 16, 2019.[4] The game was also ported and released for the PlayStation 4 on May 14, 2019, for Xbox One on May 16, under the publisher Crunching Koalas,[5][6] and for Google Stadia on September 17, 2021. It later released for PlayStation 5 on October 28, 2022 and for Xbox Series X/S on December 23, 2022.
Darkwood is set somewhere in the Polish People's Republic or according to the developers, somewhere else in the Soviet Bloc[3] in the late 1980s where a mysterious forest has engulfed a large amount of land and is continuing to expand. Many people have been left trapped by the forest and a strange plague is ravaging the survivors, killing and causing victims to transform into monsters and abominations. A group named "The Outsiders" consisting mostly of government officials and soldiers were sent to investigate the woods, setting up hideouts and a tunnel system to get in and out of the forest. By the time the game takes place most of the Outsiders are dead or evacuated from the zone.
The game begins with The Doctor rambling about the forest and how it has consumed all exits and trapped its inhabitants, his inability to treat the plague and his devotion to escaping the woods before he perishes. While scavenging for gasoline, The Doctor comes across the Stranger, injured and unconscious after an unknown accident. After looting a large key from his body, the Doctor theorizes that the Stranger possesses knowledge on how to escape the forest. The Stranger is then captured, sedated and eventually beaten as the Doctor interrogates him regarding an escape route. The story focus and controls switch to the Stranger as he engineers an escape from the Doctor's house. After some exploration, the cottage is broken into by several monsters and the Stranger blacks out.
The atmosphere of the book perfectly fits into narration which from one point becomes an unreliable narration. A tall glass house in the middle of the woods where no one can see from the inside but anyone can be watching from the outside. Winter and cold and an overwhelming feeling of an impending tragedy.
You can begin this project by prepping the table. In this case, I just removed the old drawer hardware and emptied the drawers. Then, I prepped my orbital sander by putting it on sandpaper. I started with 60-grit sandpaper. Sometimes, people will choose to strip the dark stain using Citristrip or a similar stripping agent first. This table was a rough-type distressed natural wood (I am not sure of the type). Therefore, I decided to just begin to refinish this dark wood table by sanding to remove the stain. If this had been a slicker finish type furniture piece, I would have likely stripped it first.
After the first pass, you will notice the wood looks kind of milky. This will disappear the more times you go over an area with the sander. I prefer to work in small sections and continue to go over the areas with multiple passes to get the desired results for each section.
I LOVE having a room that is ultra cozy. Think an office, a small bedroom, a little bathroom. Bold, dark colors look great in these instances. I think it all comes down to how you want to feel in your room. If you want to feel cozy and have a room that feels like a hug then go bold.
Like you, we have unpainted wood trim throughout our home. When we moved in five years ago, I was tempted to paint out the trim but now love it as it is.
As I have worked through painting the rooms in our house, I have been pleasantly surprised at how much quicker it is when you do not have to paint the trim!
In A Dark, Dark Wood is about a group of friends attending a bachelorette (hen) party at a cabin in the middle of the woods. This finish was popular on cabinets, in particular, in the late 90s and early 2000s and is known for its DRASTIC depth. More often than not, this wood color has a violet undertone, although some species flash a touch of red and, more rarely, yellow.

Collingwood is one of my FAAAAVE warm gray paint colors with its soft, subtle violet undertone. This particular undertone can be a beautiful complement to many dark wood finishes, especially those with red or violet hues, but it can also complement some orange and yellow undertones.
While a more modern approach is to paint the upper and lower walls the same color when you have a chair rail, the style of this room and the tone of the wood suit this two-color palette MUCH more than one single color would.
Hi! I love your blog! We just bought a home with dark to med wood trim on everything. Trying to convince my husband that we can have a balance like painting the trim white but leaving the exposed beams, floors and stairs wood. Trying to figure out wall color too! Need some advice!!!
Hi! I have dark walnut floors and trim, beige carpet, and cream colored doors. Currently most of the rooms in our home are painted a dark beige and I am looking to modernize with a gray. Is there any you recommend? I was looking at sw anew gray. Thanks!
I just want to thank you for all of your articles. I was looking for a white for my northern exposure dining room that has dark wood trim (my house is an old Victorian). I read through a bunch of your posts including how to best choose white. I ended up going with SW West Highland White. It came out so beautifully. Thanks again for all of your tips and advice!

Sanding off the finish is such a messy job, and a big struggle too if there are any grooves or details in the wood. On the other hand, stripping a table had me concerned about dangerous fumes and chemicals. Post contains affiliate links.
It doubles as a sealer, and since it is thicker and stays on the surface, it smooths out any imperfections. The color looks much darker when you first apply, but as it is spreads out it looks very similar to the shade on the can.
When it came to choosing the new flooring for our Massachusetts Colonial, I always had a very clear vision for that house of having extremely dark wood floors. While the current popular choice in flooring tends to be wide plank light wood floors like white oak, there is something timeless and traditional about the warmth and depth of darker hardwood floors. They are the perfect contrast to lighter colors elsewhere in your home.
The main advantage of dark hardwoods is that they are beautiful. This is a matter of opinion, of course. However, dark hardwood flooring is a classic in traditional decor style and it naturally goes with the modern trend of having lighter colors on the walls and in the furniture throughout the home.
To sum up the negatives about having dark hardwood floors, it would definitely be the fact that they require a lot of upkeep. While lighter wood floors hide dirt and dog hair, dark hardwood floors show every speck of dust if you look closely.
I was wondering how you liked the Dyson stick vacuum? I had an old Dyson animal that I stupidly replaced with a bissell pet hair eraser. We have hardwood throughout the house with the exception of 2 braided and one seagrass rug downstairs and wool area rugs in each of the kids rooms upstairs. Parts of the bissell broke almost immediately, it spread more hair than picked up, destroyed the binding on my seagrass rug, was an all around dog to operate for the 2 months or so I owned it until the brush roller snapped and I happily returned it to BB&B. We have 3 large shedding dogs and 3 small children. Daily floor cleaning is a must around here. Does the Dyson stick have the power I would need to suck all that yellow lab hair out of the braided rugs?
