In addition to running the simple shortcuts suggested by Siri, you can use the Shortcuts app to add ready-made or custom shortcuts to your devices. The app lets you combine multiple steps across multiple apps to create powerful task automations.

I had a good chat with apple support. Hard one to troubleshoot as the issue was intermittent. We thought the issue was multiple hotspots (and dual-band hotspots), but I have proved this works fine by forcing my iphone and homepod on to different SSIDs, but same network.
