The Adventure ReBirth is reworked in the spirit of old level-style Castlevania that spawned it, for sale as nostalgia Castlevania, which makes it more of an resurgence or revisiting rather than the rebirth some of us wait hesitantly for, but the term rebirth works better for the marketing.
I suffer through all of it to get to the boss fights. Without taking away from the fact that Castlevania has always had the most varied and interesting stage enemies, the experience is completed by some of the most memorable boss fights in gaming.
Stages also offer a few surprises along the way via variant pathways toward the goal, with secret stashes of points and beef to be found. One stage in particular revisits the classic puzzle scenario of multiple doors leading to multiple rooms, and around in circles a few times before decoding the ideal path.
"I am." She almost hissed as she tried to find comfort and hug herself. Her entire body was shaking like a leaf, and she fell to her knees with a thud. Alucard kneeled down next to her and placed a gentle hand on her back. His face was full of concern for her.
He had noticed those black swirls that snaked around her arms and her hands since the moment she walked into his life. He always wondered what they were and the story behind them and if they had something to do with her pain...
Her face began looking relieved, and even thankful, as the minutes passed by. She wiped a few tears away from her eyes and she tried to stand up, but she was still rather weak. Alucard helped her find her balance as he got on his feet too.
"In my travels, I was trying to heal a bird. Someone in the woods offered to help; she welcomed me in her home and everything. But it turned out to be a trap, and she tried to kill me. But, since I managed to fight her off and escape... She cursed me on my way out."
She descended and then landed a couple of steps in front of him, and then she finally returned to her normal form. She fixed a few ruffled edges of her overcoat and then folded her arms behind her back. He seemed completely speechless.
im thinkin abt alucard. specifically thinking abt how he probably grew up completely isolated from other children bc of what he is. thinkin abt how that huge cold castle felt warm & familiar to him with lisa & drac there. thinkin abt this little tiny anomaly living inside of the monster that is castlevania & how even a monster manages to feel friendly once you've lived in the heart of it. thinkin abt alucard being gangly & growing awkwardly, & looking like a teenager when he's barely past ten, he speaks too eloquently for any human his age & the vampire kids would say he smells like food, even if they were able to talk to him, part of him is glad they can't (drac won't let him), bc he knows they'd think he's weird. he's not like other vampires, he's too warm, there's a sparkle in his eyes that isn't present with them. he would not belong. thinkin abt trevor telling alucard to "not get all weepy about it" over a boy who is barely even twenty over literally killing his own father. thinking abt how sypha & trevor were the only friends he ever had & not only did they not connect properly with him (he does not belong) but even they seen him as the other, he's the cold spot in the room, as vampires are. i'm thinkin abt how lisa & drac are clever people who *must* have talked his weird existence over before he was even conceived, i'm thinking about lisa's optimism being as tempting as her blood is to dracula & him wanting to believe her. wanting so desperately to see the optimism she sees in the world, but the undeniable reality is that despite that hope, alucard does not belong. i'm thinking about how there's a divide between lisa (the martyr) & dracula (the monster) & how somewhere split down the middle is alucard. thinking about how he should've been so remarkable conceptually, he was born from two beings who are naturally against each other (a symbol of unity to those who don't know him. he's a heated topic amongst humans & vampires & draculas so angry. he's *his* little boy for fucksake). i'm thinking abt how he was born from both the good & bad in humanity. i'm thinking, instead of all these things, instead of what he represents, i'm thinking about how alucard is a person. alucard is a person who does good because he feels obligated to do so, who has decided to live as a legend rather than a man, who does good even at the cost of his every personal desire for what is as close to normal as someone (something) like him can get, & yet, the truth is still there. regardless of his selflessness, he still will never, ever, ever belong. & he doesn't want to belong, he's long past that longing, he's not at peace with it, maybe he will be, some day.
where do you put something that has nowhere to go? do you take them with you to hunt vampires? to hunt monsters that probably feel so familiar to him? to kill his own kind? or do you leave them alone in the ruins of the only home they've ever known?
do you guys ever think abt how weird his upbringing must have been, particularly in the game universe? castlevania is ever-changing right? his upbringing must've been extremely erratic, & now it feels like his life is forever unchanging
"Castlevania has truly reinvented itself with its move to next gen platforms and we're extremely pleased at the positive response we've seen toward Castlevania: Lords of Shadow globally, mainly due to the dedicated fans who have supported the series for so long," said Konami boss Shinji Hirano.
"The remarkable sales achieved in such a short time are a true testament of the work and dedication that went into this project, and we're very grateful to have partnered with such fine talent in the rebirth of one of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.'s most successful franchises."
