Would it be possible to roll vidnik into a screencasting tool as well?

Sure. Apple has source code examples of doing screen capture at regular intervals, and Apple has sample code for turning a series of images into a quicktime movie. It also would not be too hard to composite a small box with the camera's movie into a corner of the screencast.

Vidnik is a source code example, a jumping off place for future work. I offer it under the Apache license which lets you use the source code in your own programs without having to make your own programs' source code available.
