Apple has told us how exciting and efficient the new HEIF image compression is in iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. So today I went to my High Sierra system, and tried to compress one of my 16 MB Camera RAW files to the new format, also known as HEIC.
Actually I only created the HEIF conversion scripts because of your article to see if it would be of any use. Other than saving disk space, I have no other use for them right now. As far as HVEC, there too I have used it to save disk space, although it makes streaming large movies or TV shows to my Apple TV much nicer. Due to their smaller size, I can stream high resolution content remotely with lower bandwidth utilization.
Is that so puzzling? High Sierra does decode HEIF quite happily, so that should have been easy to implement, at least on High Sierra. But apart from making it slightly easier to work with iOS 11 images, there seems little point.

Thank you for taking the trouble to visit, and even more for the hope that we might one day be able to write HEIF/HEIC images properly.
The format looks promising, but it is so hard to actually use it, which seems a great shame.

Apple introduced a pin feature to the Notes app, which allows users to take notes more quickly on High Sierra systems. Users can pin the most important messages to the top and prevent the pinned content from interfering with others when they create a new note.
You can use the High Sierra ISO file that we have shared for you in a virtual machine using VMware Workstation, VMware Player, Oracle VM VirtualBox, vSphere ESXi, Fusion, or Parallels virtualization software, or you can create a Bootable USB and install it when you want to make a clean installation on your Mac computers.
You can only use the downloaded ISO file on virtualization programs or Mac computers mentioned above. If you try to open the ISO image on the Windows operating system, you will get an ISO Corrupted error because you cannot open this installation image on Windows.
You can click the button below to download the 10.13.6 version, one of the current macOS High Sierra versions, to your computer. Additionally, do not forget that you can save Sonoma 14 or Ventura 13 image files to your PC, where the developers offer the more current version to their users.
