Which is the best production suite to learn/own?

I'm going to purchase some editing software, I have both a mac and a
pc, so platforms are not the issue.

I'm looking at bang for the buck here.

I've heard all kinds of things about Final Cut Pro Studio vs. Adobe
Premiere vs AVID but no one has really given me a definite answer as
to which has the best learning curve. What can you do in one software
vs what you can or can't do in the others.....etc.

Before i run out and drop the cash on one I'd like to get some input
from people who have used one or all of these programs.

I know FCP studio runs about 1200, but does that include everything
you need or will you still have to add more software. And is this
also true for the others?

Are there any other options out there that I don't know about or is it
usually one of these three.....I'm going to be editing my full length
feature in the future so I want to know what is best.

thanks for any advice!

L.W.

Actually platforms are an issue if you ask me. I've been using a MAC for years and will never use a PC. That being said, it does not matter what software yu use to edit as long as yo know how to edit. A lot of people have preferences with the software they use and they usually stick with it. I've only used Avid and FCP bit I hear a lot of great things about Adobe.

You should also look at what kind of MAC you have and see if your computer meets the minimum requirements to to run editing software. FCP has all the apps you need in one box to make just about anything and so does Adobe. Avid makes DV express but doesn't come with any other software that lets you create motion graphics, author a DVD, and score your film the way Final Cut Studio does.

I think FCP is the way to go.

why don't yo go to an apple store and mess around with Final Cut Pro.

I have a new 20" Imac with 2g ram, and I have a terastation external
HD......I'm confident my mac can handle anything.

I have played with imovie, and it works pretty well and I've played
with pinnacle so are FCP and Avid close to those as far as ease of
use?

Final Cut Pro and imovie are totally different. I've never used pinnacle. Final Cut Pro does not have a steep learning curve as far as using the software. It's very intuitive. If you like imovie then Final Cut Pro will open your mind to an array of editing possibilities.
