Please Read carefully. -- How do I turn off these intrusive Congratulations pages?

I have lots of open tabs!

I am working in a FF (57) Tab. The Tab I am working in is 1 of about 50 open tabs. Lets say the one I am working on is number 26 of the 50 tabs that I am working with.

All of a sudden VDH takes control OF MY browser and sends me to the last (end) of the 50 tabs that I have open so that it can OPEN A NEW TAB TO TELL  ME "Congratulations, you just upgraded to Video DownloadHelper..."

The "Congratulations, you just upgraded to Video DownloadHelper..." is an INFORMATIONAL message that IS NOT REQUIRED!!

It is EXTREMELY INVASIVE because it has STOPPED me from working and I now have to HUNT for the tab I was working on!!!

Normally when I CLOSE a tab that shows up at the end of my 50 tabs, FF returns me back to the tab I was previously working on. But NOT VDH - close the VDH tab and it stays at the 50th tab. This is a bug in VDH.!!

I WOULD SAY THIS IS A BUG in VDH because it does NOT send me back to the original tab I was working on when VDH took control of my browser.

I would not mind this INTRUSION if upon closing this informational page from VDH, I was sent back to the page I was on before the intrusion.

So not only is my work interrupted but NOW I have to hunt for where I was before the intrusion.

IS IT A BUG that VDH does not send me back to the tab I was originally on when I close this intrusive tab (page) that took control of my browser?

(Instead of opening a whole new tab - why not show a popup like the ones that popup to say that Video XYZ has finished downloading)

Most Importantly - How do I turn off these intrusive Congratulations pages? (Right now all I can see is to block "https://www.downloadhelper.net/update*" in my antivirus.)

Uninstalling VDH is a first solution.

There is no way to not display the update page, but since updates on the public VDH channel happen in average once a month or 6 weeks, you must admit that the post you just wrote took you more time than a few years switching back to your current tab after a VDH update :)

We won't turn off this update notification as this is a way to get a much more efficient feed-back from the users when they know the add-on updated, features have been added, bug fixed and maybe new ones appeared. So basically, this takes an important part in the product quality.

This being said, your suggestion to switch back to the current tab after the update tab has been closed is very good. I added it to the TODO list.

Thanks for getting back to me.

LONG TIME USER AND SUPPORTER! Therefore I spent the extra time to let you know there is something wrong. And this has happened twice within the last week - not 4 to 6 weeks. This is why I needed to let you know.

https://www.downloadhelper.net/update?from=7.1.2&to=7.2.0 (Current Page)

Can't say for sure that the one that happened earlier in the week was related to this update but whatever it was it also did not send me back to the page I was on. - Glad it is on your todo list.

This problem Happens during movies too. We are watching a netflix and suddenly the movie is gone replaced by this page that says Congratulations: My family errupted into chaos when your Congratulations window interupted their video.  (Didn't help that it occured during an exciting part of the movie.)  We were not even using VDH.

How can you not see this is a problem?

If I did not think your software was worth it, it would already be gone. It has a problem and I felt you should know about it. I understand that you feel the need to get this information to the users but there has to be a different way. It is too bad there is not some kind of focus group to help you hash out these kinds of things.

Maybe you could wait until the user is actually using VDH to give this warning. When they click on the app to use it is when the user should see this message. Not when they are nowhere near the app doing something totally unrelated.

Isn't this related to that webpush stuff?
