Hi guys,

I am trying to install the latest version of VDL Helper to my Firefox, but unfortunately it does not work. All previous versions, before 8, were working perfectly, but this new version does not.

What did I do?

Search for VDL Helper on the Firefox addon site, install VDL Helper, everything ok. When I want to download a video, the addon says that a co app will be necessary to install. Therefore I go to options, I click on "install co app", a new window opens, I choose the relevant file to download, and then nothing else happens. I can see where the file was downloaded, but when I try to install with the usual Linux installer it does not work and therefore does not appear in the addon.

Any idea how to solve this?

I have no experience with Linux. I can only describe how it all installs on Windows.
Maybe things are analogous in Linux.

When I click the button on the VDH web site for a version of VDH, the web site & Firefox
do some magic behind the scenes & then I get a congratulations page. I have had it
happen that it looks like it has completed the install successfully but I didn't get the
congratulations page. I had to retry the install. On the second try, I got the
congratulations page & after that, the browser extension was installed correctly. So it
is important that you get the congratulations page. I believe that page happens to
contain important instructions that you need to follow. Don't just dismiss the
congratulations page without reading it.

When it comes to the CoApp, all I got from the web site was a file downloaded to my hard
drive. I then had to execute that file. It ran for just a few seconds. I imagine it
unzipped a couple of files to a couple of places & did something within the VDH settings
to tell it where the CoApp was now installed. That's all internals so I'm guessing at
this. It's more or less magic from my point of view.

There are some rather byzantine processes you have to go through with the CoApp on Linux.
Take a look at this:

I don't know Linux, like I said. But I have read discussions on here that looked to me
like they would be helpful to somebody who does know Linux. Search for "linux" within
the text of that web page. You will find several hits that point off to other threads
that discuss topics that I had no idea what people were talking about. But I would hope
when you read them, they will make sense to you.

Good luck.
