My computer is pretty crap, so I've been using Video DownloadHelper to download Youtube videos so I am able to watch the video smoothly (my computer doesn't like streaming the high quality videos, especially 60fps), however I have never been forced to use ADP before now, as the only options for some reason are ADP suddenly, but when I try to download it, aggregation starts and it take forever, I started typing this message after about a minute of waiting, and it's still not even a quarter done 5 minutes later, It's taking up all my CPU, 100% usage, I could literally sync the video and audio myself in maybe 10 seconds. I literally just wanna do that, is there any way for me to not be forced to convert them and just download the audio and video so I don't have to wait 30-60 minutes just for a 720p 30fps less than 10 minute video to combine the audio and video together, unless you have a solution to speed up the ridiculously slow aggregation.

The latest alpha version should fix the problem of only having ADP variants available on youtube: Video DownloadHelper 5.5.0a4

It's working stably on my system and no one has reported any real issues with it so far.

Aggregation will be very slow (and suck up all your cpu usage) as you described if the converter needs to re-encode the video. The video may be re-encoded if:

1. You don't have a registered converter license (VDH inserts a watermark in this case which requires re-encoding the video.)
2. You have the option 'Force H264 tuning in aggregation' selected.
3. You have set conversion options that convert the video to another format.

As long as the converter doesn't need to re-encode the video the aggregation should only take a second or two.

Ignore my comment about the latest version of VDH fixing the problem of non-ADP variants not showing up. It seems youtube have been making changes again and now all versions of VDH have this problem :(

Tig, i don't see any particular problem with YouTube so far. What exact versions of Firefox / VDH are you using ? Can you point me to a specific YouTube page where you're having the problem ?

I see you've already found and fixed the problem :) Like others I can confirm that the latest release Video DownloadHelper 5.5.0a5 has fixed the problem I was having and all the expected variants are available again.

And this problem is back again with the February 23rd, 2018 version of Video Download Helper. So annoying.

As of 4/27/18, using VDH 7.2.2, How do you disable automatic conversion? I just want to download mp4 for God's sake.

By default, VDH only performs conversion when it is necessary or you explicitly request it.

If you added conversion rules, then automatic conversion may apply. In this case, just remove those rules from the add-on settings.

no conversion rules here, yet all my youtube videos are claiming to need 2 hours of aggregation each... help? dailymotion, putlocker etc. are all fine.

Aggregation (as opposed to conversion) is often mandatory because Youtube video (the ones marked as ADP) stream audio and video separately.
With the registered version, there is no video re-encoding and the process completes almost instantly.

Since VDH was launched 12 years ago, the add-on has done its best to download videos in a large number of situations. But getting a 100% success rate is simply not achievable. In your case, the site uses a non-standard (or at least unsupported) encryption scheme which causes VDH to fail downloading.

It is important to understand that it never happened that purchasing a premium license was required to download from a site. VDH either works or not, and if it works, then getting premium gives some advantages.

Aggregation is usually super fast (less than 1 second). But Downloaderhelper insist to insert a "barcode" advertisement into the videos they merge for free users, causing the encoder ffmpeg is forced to re-encode the whole video (instead of simply join audio+video together).

Hope they can find a quicker way, like rich-text subtitle style of ad image, doing a quick merging like mkv. or at least tune-up the ffmpeg parameters a bit. (the default encoder settings can be 4 time slower than a fine-tuned settings)

The people who can rip the ads out of the mkv is also capable of fetch the original video/audio sources from the temp folder anyway.

As a free user, downloading a 1,5h video from Vimeo left me with about 4 hours (!) of aggregation in addition to the time to download it on a moderate laptop. This is ridiculous! There needs to be a better solution to watermark the video that doesn't take literally forever.

There is no solution. The existence of the watermark is VDH's gentle way of encouraging
you to get a license. For a more complete discussion, look here:
