I have used Handbrake to convert downloaded WEBM videos to MP4 format. I know VDH has a Download & Convert mode, but I've never used it.

One format is as good as another. VLC plays WEBM just as well as MP4. But if you
absolutely have to have an MP4, you can use VDH to convert a WEBM to MP4. But I would
stay away from the Download & Convert function. I would download the WEBM & make sure
that completes successfully. Then convert the file. If you do a Download & Convert &
there's a problem with either the download or the convert, you'll be left with nothing.
If you make sure first that you have a downloaded file, you can then convert it. If the
convert fails or if you don't like the conversion, you can just try again with different
settings without having to go through the download again.

When it comes to what YouTube offers, there's nothing VDH can do about that. VDH offers
what is there to be offered. If there's no MP4, tough. That's a decision made by
YouTube & we just have to live with it.

I haven't tested yet on YouTube, but I have noticed that InstaGram seems to have found a way to block my downloads. Nothing will download now.

I too have been enjoying VideoDownloadHelper extensively, and hate to see those two most important sites go;  YouTube and Instagram.

I also wanted to mention that I have been looking up my listings on those two sites with my favorite browser, Chrome (Windows 10 64-Bit) and then I copy the links and take them over to FireSlop (I like it, but I love playing word games. What I really mean is FireFox, which is an excellent Browser, I just prefer Chrome) and then, as had been mentioned somewhere back there in some documentation I read, FireFox was much better at grabbing the .MP4 Downloads from those two sites (YouTube and Instagram).

I am sure that the Techs are on this situation like "white on rice" (a correct expression for most Americans who eat mainly white rice) in other words, the Techs are going to be slamming this with everything they've got. They've got a VERY GOOD THING going here with VideoDownloadHelper and are probably making money hand-over-fist, (as the expression goes) and no doubt wish to keep the money flowing. So my suggestion is, "Stand fast, be patient, and I'm certain a solution shall be along shortly."

I still Love the quote of Jewels in Pulp Fiction in the short story "The Bonnie Situation" where he tells Marsella Wallace, "I don't want to hear no stories Marsellas. The words I wanna here are, "no problem, Jewels. go and chill those guys out, Jewels, and Wait for the Cavalry which will be showing up promptly, Jewels!" - a movie you and I and all of us can watch on our own while we wait for the Cavalry (Techs) coming over the Hill so we can get back to archiving interesting content.

If you go on the site which supports WavePad Editor, they have a converter on there - I'm not sure if it's a stand alone because I bought them all at the same time, but it seems to be a completely separate program, which after regristration will convert many file formats and not give you friction about it. I have purchased it, but haven't had much of a chance to test it fully yet and see if it will convert WEBM to .MP4.

A note:;   WebM requires other programs and permission. .MP4 is a stand alone file that can be viewed in anything designed for it. This is why so many - myself among them - prefer .MP4, .MP3,  .WAV, etc.  The Standalones.

What do you mean?  The download fails or it doesn't start downloading. I found it worked by going to the video not logged in. I have no account
with them.
