Downloads from dailymotion have been working fine until just recently.

Now, after I select a video to be downloaded, I get an error in VDH similar
to this:

Downloaded file for "..." is empty.
Media might be protected.

This happens for all videos I've tried; even ones I
have successfully downloaded in the past.

Any workaround for this?

Thanks.

You are the first user reporting this issue.

I just gave a try downloading from dailymotion and it worked fine.

Can you share one sample video URL ?

Sure, here is one:

I recently upgraded to Firefox 44.0.2 and am not sure if I have downloaded any videos from dailymotion
since then. It seems like a strange coincidence...

This video downloaded fine for me on Firefox 44.0.2.

Anyone else's feedback ?

One other piece of information that might have something to do with this is that I
have the Flash plugin disabled in Firefox. The videos still play fine. And the list
of video files I see in the VDH list are all various resolutions of mp4.
I get the same VDH error no matter which resolution mp4 I choose for download.

I have noticed the same problem, but it seems to be intermittent.  The first download of a firefox session will often download (but not always), and after that the same error (empty media or protected) will appear.  I have just upgraded to Firefox 44.0.2 and am about to try reinstalling back to 44.0 to see if it helps.

Same problem after buying the premium license for the converter. Have attached a screen shot. Here's a sample video URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm-UejdFNJw&list=PLUSRfoOcUe4aXcBzPAnW2jtgPlan4TZdE&index=2

Kind of frustrating after getting all Bitcoined up JUST for this program... :(  Please help.

Picking variants with the lock icon almost always result in the "empty" error message.

If there is no unprotected variant available, please wait for the new version of the converter to be released. Follow the https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/video-downloadhelper-5/2sYH24AXdWo forum to get notified of the next development version.

Thanks very much for your answer. I've signed up to follow that forum for updates.
Meanwhile, I'm new to VDH, in case not screamingly obvious, so forgive me for the likely base-level Q, but from this photo can you tell if there's a way to see whether that list represents the extent of available variants?
Thanks again! --mh

In this screenshot, all entries have the lock icon, so none is downloadable :(

BUT

Try installing the 3.2a1 update of the converter: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/video-downloadhelper-5/Ug9Ah-xe0Jk

If you are lucky (meaning YouTube is using vp9/opus to play the version in the page), you will get an entry to download the video as a WEBM file.

If you are not (meaning YouTube is using vp9/aac), you'll have to wait for a few days to install a development version of VDH 5.6.0 that will offer a MKV file for download. Follow https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/video-downloadhelper-5 to get notified of availability of 5.6.0a1

My HD has crushed recently so I've installed everything from scratch. Then VDH 5.6.0 no longer works with Firefox 46.0.2 at dailymotion. The symptom is "empty". I tried several videos that I could download before the HD crush, but I cannot download them anymore. For example, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x488aot_%E3%81%9D%E3%82%8C%E3%81%A7%E3%82%82%E5%A5%BD%E3%81%8D%E3%81%A0%E3%82%88_fun I can download it using SAVEVIDEO.ME so I believe the cause is in VDH. Please can anyone help me?

I've found VDH couldn't be used in the private browsing mode. That was all.

I tried downloading http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x488aot_%E3%81%9D%E3%82%8C%E3%81%A7%E3%82%82%E5%A5%BD%E3%81%8D%E3%81%A0%E3%82%88_fun and didn't get any problem (VDH detects 4 variants in HLS and 4 in direct MP4 download). Tried again from a private mode window, only got the MP4 entries, causing the "media is empty" symptom. I restarted Firefox, opened a private window, and now i can download the vids without problem. Not sure what to think but definitely an issue to keep an eye on.

Another method is to copy and paste the dailymotion video url to Allavsoft and click Download button.
